Manchester City were thoroughly humbled at José Alvalade Stadium on Tuesday as Ruben Amorim sent a thorough warning to his future rivals. 4-1 read the final score as Erling Haaland and co. could only watch on as their opponents ran riot. Even though City opened the scoring in the fourth minute of the game, it was one way traffic for the hosts afterwards.

Erling Haaland made headlines for all the wrong reasons as he missed a crucial penalty kick. City were given a golden opportunity to get back into the game at a point where they were two goals behind. With Viktor Gyokeres having already found the net twice, the onus was on Haaland to live up to the hype. However, his spot kick went inches wide of the target, hit the crossbar and went out of bounds.

Minutes later, Gyokeres completed his hat-trick, which was almost symbolic of rubbing salt in Haaland’s wounds.

The City No. 9 came under a lot of criticism as his Swedish opponent showed him ‘levels’ ahead of a rumored move to the Premier League.

Fans troll Erling Haaland for missed penalty in lacklustre display

Fans haven’t forgotten what Erling Haaland told Mikel Arteta after a nail-biting 2-2 draw at the Etihad. A fan commented that Haaland’s form has dipped ever since he confidently told the Arsenal boss to ‘stay humble’. Many laughed at how Ruben Amorim didn’t even bother to look when Haaland took his penalty.

Haaland is goalless in his last two games and was benched in the 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the EFL Cup. Many sang praise for Viktor Gyokeres as the Swedish striker gave United fans a reason to hope for his arrival at Old Trafford alongside Ruben Amorim. Even though Erling Haaland’s cabinet is miles clear of the Sporting man, Sporting fans argued that he’ll eventually reach there.

City lost three games in a row for the first time in over six years as Pep Guardiola‘s side navigate an injury crisis. John Stones, Ruben Dias and many more have been sidelined with injuries. City are currently sixth in the Champions League and will most likely drop down the table with more than half of the teams yet to play.
