Matchday 2 in the Premier League saw defending champions Manchester City march on with a dominant display against Ipswich Town. Pep Guardiola‘s men showed no mercy to the newly promoted side as Erling Haaland bagged a stunning hat-trick against The Tractor Boys. With four goals to his name already, Haaland has reclaimed the top scorer title for the new season.

City were on top from the very start, although Ipswich shocked the hosts by taking the early lead. Sammie Szmodics‘ goal was quickly cancelled out by a penalty from City’s No.9. New signing Savinho was fouled at the edge of the penalty area, following which Haaland comfortably slotted his penalty into the bottom left corner. The Norwegian then doubled his tally when he found himself in front of an unguarded net.

The forward beat opposition keeper Arijanet Muric to the ball and made no mistake to score into an empty net. It took the striker another 60 minutes or so to grab his next goal, which was the farthest out of the three.

Haaland didn’t even take a touch before letting fly from outside the box, catching the opposition off-guard. As Haaland effortlessly continued his scoring streak, fans claimed that he will win the Premier League Golden Boot once again.

Ilkay Gundogan makes Man City return as Kevin De Bruyne bosses midfield for City in 4-1 win

Erling Haaland was up to his usual tricks as Manchester City put 6 points on the board. Besides the Norwegian’s hat-trick, the Etihad was witness to the much-awaited return of Ilkay Gundogan after spending a season at FC Barcelona. His twenty minute cameo had the stadium up on its feet as the crowd welcomed back a legend.

Even though the German did not contribute to any of the four goals scored by his side, fans claimed that his return was the highlight of the game. Belgian midfielder Kevin De Bruyne bagged City’s second goal of the night after Savinho placed the ball on a plate for the 33-year-old. De Bruyne made no mistake to find the target although it was into an empty net.

Following the game, Pep Guardiola had high words of praise for Haaland, as the youngster equaled Wayne Rooney‘s hat-trick tally at 24. He also compared the forward to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as he acknowledged the fact that Haaland is at their ‘level’. The Spaniard also added that Haaland is the most complete center forward he’s seen since Messi himself.
