Erling Haaland‘s numbers since joining Manchester City are rivaled by none, although both player and club have come under a spell of ‘poor’ form in their last four outings. As the 2024/25 season heats up, City have a lot of things to fix, out of which Haaland’s contract situation is one.

The Norwegian striker is under contract at the club till 2027 and earns £375,000 a week. However, it is understood that the club is working towards a new contract, which will see the striker become the highest-paid player in the Premier League.

The deal will see Haaland overtake teammate Kevin De Bruyne‘s £400k salary and will keep him at the club till 2028-29. The proposed deal will see the Norwegian get paid £500k per week.

However, the player’s camp is reportedly adamant about having an increased release clause in his contract. It currently stands at £150 million, and they want it increased to £200 million per Haaland’s improved market valuation. The club, on the other hand, doesn’t want any release clause added.

What next for Haaland and Manchester City?

With a series of four consecutive losses in all competitions, Manchester City are in a difficult spot in their season. Erling Haaland‘s 15 goals in all competitions comfortably make him the leading goal scorer at the club.

Haaland’s 12 Premier League goals also make him the top scorer in the English top flight. After a 2-1 defeat to Brighton, City play their next game against Tottenham Hotspur. City also have a game against Feyenoord in the Champions League in between, although Liverpool away has the potential to alter the course of the season.

Five points adrift of top spot, City need wins against both Spurs and Liverpool if they are to chase down the Reds. City also have to navigate an injury crisis, with Ruben Dias, John Stones, and many more sidelined currently.

The club will look to bring in necessary reinforcements during the winter transfer window. Names like Hakan Calhanoglu have been suggested as the potential replacement for Rodri, who is out with an ACL injury.
