Espanyol vs Atletico Madrid Player Ratings as Thomas Lemar strike takes Atletico to top

Thomas Lemar’s 99th-minute goal takes Atletico Madrid to the top of the La Liga as they come back from behind to win 2-1 against Espanyol at the RCDE Stadium. Raul de Tomas opened the scoring for the home side from a corner before Yannick Carrasco and Lemar found the back of the net.

Let us have a look at how each player of both the teams performed:

Espanyol

Diego Lopez (GK) (7/10): Lopez made some key saves to deny the Atletico Madrid upsurge in the second half.

Adria Perdosa (7/10): Perdosa kept Atletico Madrid busy at the back with his pin point crosses.

Leandro Cabrerra (6/10): Cabrerra had a tough time dealing with Atletico Madrid in the second half and was the reason for Carrasco’s equaliser due to his slower reaction to a loose ball inside the box.

Fernando Calero (7/10): Calero had an impressive outing and kept out the Atletico attack at bay with key interceptions.

Oscar Gill (/10):

Adrian Embarba (/10): Embarba was quick on the ball and created Espanyol’s first goal with a perfectly delivered corner.

Manu Morlanes (7/10): Morlanes came on top of most midfield battles. He was more defensive than usual and did not allow Atletico to dominate the central areas.

Sergi Darder (/10):

Oscar Melendo (6/10): Melendo posed a constant bit of pressure on the opposition in the first half and was instrumental in creating a number of openings.

Aleix Vidal (6/10): Vidal’s pace and trickery caused problems for Atletico in the first half but was kept off the scene by Atletico Madrid in the second half.

Raul de Tomas (8/10): Tomas scored from an Embarba corner and posed a constant threat for Atletico Madrid throughout the 90 minutes.

Substitutes:

Luis Recasens (7/10): Recasnes was quick on the ball and dictated the midfield for Espanyol.

Keidi Bare (6/10): Bare replaced an injured Melendo but did not play a significant part in the game.

Loren Moron (6/10): Moron played the role of a defensive midfield but could not deal with the attacking mindset of Atletico in the second half.

Nicolas Melamed (6/10): The youngster showed glimpses of his brilliance with the ball but there was nothing much to offer for him with Espanyol on the backfoot for most parts of the second half.

Landry Dimata (N/A)

Atletico Madrid

Jab Oblak (8/10): Oblak was kept busy throughout the game and made some exceptional saves, especially in the first half to keep Atletico in the game.

Stefan Savic (7/10): Savic kept the Espanyol wingers at bay in the second half after a change in his position and provided effective wing support for the likes of Suarez upfront.

Felipe (6/10): Felipe struggled to keep up with the pace of Espanyol defenders and was not at the best of forms.

Marlo Hermoso (5/10): The left-back had a game to forget and was subbed off early for being highly inconsistent at the back.

Kieran Trippier (6/10): Trippier did not manage to find the gaps upfront and was kept restricted off the ball by the Espanyol defence.

Marcos Llorente (7/10): Llorente sent a number of crosses from the right and was a menace at the right-wing.

Koke (/10): Koke was a leader in the midfield and never allowed Espanyol to dominate the central areas in the midfield. He made some key passes to create scoring chances for his side.

Yannick Carrasco (7/10): Carrasco had a larger role to play in the second half and caused several problems for Espanyol’s defence especially in the second half. He showed a moment of individual brilliance by creating inches of space for himself with his quick feet to score a spectacular solo goal in the second half to equalise for Atletico Madrid.

Angel Correa (6/10): The Argentine was mostly isolated without much support and failed to do anything effective in the first 45 minutes.

Antoine Griezmann (5/10): The Frenchmen did not have a happy return and was never involved much in Atletico’s gameplay.

Luis Suarez (6/10): The Uruguayan was much more involved in the second half than a rather slow first half. However, he did not much have much of an impact on the game.

Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Lemar celebrates.

Substitutes:

Renan Lodi (7/10): Lodi was highly impressive after coming on in the second half. He made some dazzling runs in the wing to stretch out the Espanyol defence and was a constant threat.

Geoffrey Kondongbia (7/10): Kondongia’s introduction added space and physique in the Atletico wing. He delivered some dangerous-looking balls and was impressive on the attack.

Thomas Lemar (9/10): Lemar made some quick runs to get off his markers and kept Espanyol defenders on the back foot. He scored a stunning goal in the 100th minute to break Espanyol hearts and win all three points for Atletico.

Joao Felix (6/10): Joao Felix was underwhelming in the attack and did not have much of a contribution.

Matheus Cunha (5/10): Cunga was isolated upfront and was not a key player for Atletico.
