ESPN Insider Hints Cowboys as ‘Potential Suitors’ to Trade for All-Pro CB Jalen Ramsey

Jalen Ramsey, DaRon Bland, and Trevon Diggs can form a formidable secondary in Dallas.

Right before the Dallas Cowboys traded for George Pickens, owner Jerry Jones hinted they were working on two massive deals. One of them turned out to be Pickens; the other might be Jalen Ramsey.

During a recent appearance on ESPN’s SportsCenter, Jeremy Fowler revealed the Cowboys as one of the potential destinations for the Super Bowl winner.

I was told Miami has been in contact and in talks with several teams about Ramsey. Nothing imminent yet… The NFC East could be one to watch. The Dallas Cowboys made three trades this offseason, four players on rookie deals. Could they make a fourth trade on an NFL veteran who is on a bigger contract?

Jeremy Fowler said

The Dolphins owe Ramsey $25 million in 2025, of which he has earned $4 million so far. For the Cowboys to acquire Ramsey, they must take on the rest of the $21 million this season.

NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe confirmed that the Dolphins want to trade Ramsey despite signing a three-year deal last year, which is set to end in 2028. In his most recent analysis, Wolfe encouraged fans to closely monitor the June 1st deadline.

The Dolphins would take over a $25 million cap hit if they traded him before June 1. That number drops to under $7 million if they trade him after June 1… Relationships are hard and the relationship between the Dolphins and Ramsey has simply run out.

Cameron Wolfe said

Cowboys aren’t the only team interested in Ramsey’s services. His former team, the Los Angeles Rams, are keeping tabs on the situation. Head coach Sean McVay is reportedly working on bringing him back to LA.

Does the Cowboys’ trading for Jalen Ramsey make sense?

If the Cowboys want to add star power to their secondary, they should go for it. However, Jones must take a good, close look at his roster before the final decision.

The Cowboys’ backfield is loaded with quality corners and safeties. Both DaRon Bland and Trevon Diggs will recover from their injuries by the time the new season kicks off. On top of it, they boast a depth chart consisting of Juanyeh Thomas, Josh Butler, Caelen Carson, Andrew Booth Jr., Troy Pride, CJ Goodwin, and Amani Oruwariye.

Ramsey is undeniably an upgrade because of his illustrious resume. But money and the compensation to the Dolphins are a big issue. The Cowboys will not only have to pay Ramsey a big penny but also have to give up a generous draft pick.

The Pittsburgh Steelers struck the lottery by gaining a third-round pick through the Pickens deal. Ramsey might fetch a higher compensation for the Dolphins.

Now the big question is, do the Cowboys even go all in for Ramsey? Former Cowboys defensive end Marcus Spears believes Ramsey is better suited for the Baltimore Ravens roster than the NFC East franchise.

I truly feel still can be a championship piece surrounded by a team, just plug them in and play. And one of the places… is Baltimore [Ravens].

Marcus Spears said

As for the Cowboys, veteran writer Ed Werder outright denied the rumors of the Cowboys preparing to trade for Ramsey.

Regardless of how it plays out, Jalen Ramsey is a star. He played every game for the Dolphins in 2024, recording 60 combined tackles, 11 pass deflections, 2 interceptions, and one sack.
