In Short
  • Jalen Hurts faces criticism from within the Eagles organization, sparking backlash from former players.
  • Robert Griffin III and Dan Orlovsky defend Hurts, calling the criticism unwarranted given his success.
  • Colin Cowherd suggests that internal issues within the Eagles are being exposed as players feel threatened by their jobs.

The Philadelphia Eagles are hoping to put behind last season’s disappointment as Jalen Hurts and the offense regroup under new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion.

The latter was not the Super Bowl LIX champions’ first choice, as they preferred someone seasoned after letting go of Kevin Patullo. They arranged interviews with many, but somehow, they never got any of them to agree to join.

It was surprising to the franchise’s ardent fans that coordinators vying for a head coaching gig would not use the Eagles as a stepping stone, something Kellen Moore did in the past with success.

There were rumblings that Patullo lost his job after pandering to Jalen Hurts’ comfort zone when designing the offense. That may have ‘scared’ potential candidates, who felt that any clashes with the QB would undermine their own careers. Now there is more.

An article came out earlier suggesting that many inside the Eagles’ organization felt that the Jordan brand athlete ‘had a hand in the offense becoming calcified.’

After various other details emerged about how Hurts did not want to go the creative route, which effectively undermined the superstar teammates he had on offense, a former QB took exception to this article.

Jalen Hurts is one of the most under-appreciated winners in the NFL and one of the most disrespected Super Bowl MVPs ever. The Jalen Hurts hit pieces are getting out of hand and ridiculous.

Essentially, Robert Griffin III felt that this was an intentional attempt to malign a signal caller who has proved in the past that he can deliver when the moment calls for it.

Dan Orlovsky questions Eagles’ motives after Jalen Hurts criticism surfaces

While Robert Griffin III went on a full-scale attack on those within the Philadelphia Eagles organization for criticizing Jalen Hurts behind the veil of an anonymous source, Dan Orlovsky believes this has proven to be a trend.

I think it’s ridiculous to take a QB that has gone to two Super Bowls in a span of three years… and be like, ‘Yeah, he is just not really that good.’ It is hard for me to wrap my head around… It’s odd to me that two times in a row that this has happened.

Dan Orlovsky said

This was his first appearance on TV after being criticized for his opinion on Ty Simpson and Fernando Mendoza. But that did not stop him from pointing fingers at those inside the Eagles’ facilities.

He felt this was a trend, as the franchise did it when Carson Wentz was with them and is doing it again with Jalen Hurts. Orolovsky reminded viewers of the Pat McAfee Show that the Eagles’ QB has won more than most signal-callers in the league, which should put him out of the line of such targeted attacks.

Veteran journalist believes stories about Jalen Hurts are true

Even though there will be quite a few who would defend Jalen Hurts, there will also be those who will agree with whatever was written in that article.

I told you all summer. In August, do you remember, I have a source inside the building in Philadelphia, that I trust implicitly… He said, ‘Jalen Hurts, tough to coach, not well-liked, stubborn, and Howie Roseman is very aware of it.’ Well, what do you know, people are talking… The truth always does.

Colin Cowherd said

Cowherd reminded his viewers that two years ago, it was Saquon Barkley and the defense that were the reasons the Eagles went to and won the Super Bowl. But one good game made Jalen Hurts a superstar.

Last season, when the offense was on his shoulders, it struggled. Barkley and the rest of the players were pushed aside for Hurts, and that affected them. Colin Cowherd believes now that people are on the edge of losing their jobs, the ‘truth’ about the problems is coming out.
