Blizzard Entertainment’s sequel to its most popular first-person shooter, Overwatch 2, has gained a large player base since its release in 2022. Although Overwatch 1 was considered a dead game, its sequel was quick to revive the game to its former glory.

Overwatch 2 is a team-based first-person shooter that allows players to pick between 3 classes. The 3 classes are Tank, DPS, and Healer/Support. The default setup for a competitive Overwatch 2 match is 1 tank, 2 DPS, and 2 healers. The tank is one of the most important classes in the game, as it leads the frontline and is also responsible for keeping one’s teammates safe while also dealing with damage. There are several tanks players can choose from; however, the one most commonly used at the moment is Zarya.

Zarya: Best Counters in Overwatch 2

Zarya is one of the characters from Blizzard Entertainment‘s original Overwatch game from 2016. She belongs to the tank class and has a very powerful set of abilities that can be paired with other heroes to output massive damage. Her most powerful ability is her bubble, which she can share with her allies, and protects them from damage. Her ultimate, the Gravitational surge, can also be combined with multiple heroes to change the tide of battle.

Zarya can be a tough hero to deal with in matches. However, this does not mean she is invincible or overpowered. Here are some characters that can counter Zarya and her bizarre bubble.

Sombra

The quick and sly Sombra is the best counter one can pick for Zarya. Sombra’s hackability can bar Zarya from using her bubbles for a few seconds on herself and her teammates, allowing your team to in turn plow through the opponents. Her ultimate EMP Blast is also very effective, as it prevents all heroes, including Zarya, from using their abilities for a short while. Sombra belongs to the DPS class.

Bastion

The robot turret Bastion has been a popular player pick throughout Overwatch and Overwatch 2. His ability to deal massive amounts of damage in assault mode and fire rate melt tank shields has always been one of its iconic traits. A well-positioned Bastion can melt Reinhardt’s shield, which has 1200 HP, in seconds so Zarya’s bubble doesn’t stand a chance. Bastion is a good counter for Zarya if positioned well. Bastion belongs to the DPS class.

Pharah

Since Pharah can stay in the air and deal massive damage, Zarya, due to her poor range, cannot deal with her and is forced to spam away her bubbles. Due to this, players can time this to launch a coordinated attack when Zarya’s shields are cooling down and overwhelm the opponents. Pharah belongs to the DPS class.

Sigma

The music-loving maniac Sigma is the only tank that can properly counter Zarya and her Gravitational Surge. His unique set of abilities is a good counter for many characters. His barrier can protect teammates from Zarya’s charged blasts and his Kinetic grass can cancel out Zarya’s ultimate Gravitational Surge.
