God of War is a game that features many talismans. Talismans are important because they can make a big difference in combat, so choosing the right one is just as important as selecting the correct armor set or weapon. While all Talismans have useful effects and can be upgraded to be even better, some outshine others due to their powerful effects against the game’s enemies.
Santa Monica Studios’ God of War focuses on Kratos and his bond with his son Atreus. The combat system has been redesigned to be slower, deeper, and more systematic.

It allows Kratos to summon the flames of Muspelheim, granting him powerful effects such as uninterruptible attacks, reduced damage taken, and dealing normal and fire damage to surrounding enemies.
How to obtain the Talisman
Crafted rather than found, players need to collect 14 smoldering embers from Muspelheim to create the talisman with Brok or Sindri. The talisman embodies the fiery nature of Muspelheim, as Kratos sends out a flaming blast around his body dealing regular and burning damage to all foes caught in the eruption. While it is a powerful offensive tactic, there is more to it than just burning enemies. Kratos is also able to take less damage from incoming attacks and becomes almost impossible for enemies to interrupt due to the infusion of fire.
Unlike most Talisman effects, the effects of Sinmara’s Cinders last for about 8 seconds, making it a more useful tool in most situations. Sinmara’s Cinders allows players to become burning berserkers, capable of laying waste to a ton of regular enemies with reckless abandon.
The Amulet of Kvasir

The Amulet of Kvasir is a Talisman in God of War that slows down time whenever the player performs a perfectly timed dodge. While it may not be the best Talisman available in the game, it can still be quite handy during the early parts of the game. The passive effect of the Talisman allows players to avoid a few hits here and there without putting in much effort. However, the time distortion only lasts for a couple of seconds and is not as effective as some of the other Talismans available in the game.
How to obtain the Talisman
Players can locate the Amulet of Kvasir inside a Legendary chest in Alfheim. To get it, players must enter the Light Elf Sanctuary and find the Realm Tear past the crank gate. After crossing the bridge made of roots, players must break the roots with an axe throw to reveal a hidden cave. They must then solve a puzzle in a room with a wheel crank to make the legendary chest appear. This Talisman is one of the first that players can get their hands on, and it has relatively weak stats. However, it allows players to slow down time after a successful dodge, making it extremely useful during boss fights.

The Horn of Heimdall

After opening the gate, players should continue on to the castle’s keep, where they’ll find the fire troll locked up in a pit in the ground. Kratos will need to turn the lever to release it and defeat it to claim the Horn of Heimdall as their reward. Overall, this talisman is a great choice for players who enjoy using stunning tactics and want to add a powerful, offensive option to their arsenal.
The Golden Talisman of Protection

The Shattered Gauntlet of Ages

The Shattered Gauntlet of Ages is a nod to the Infinity Gauntlet from Marvel’s “Avengers: Infinity War.” Initially, it may seem underwhelming, with random enchantments that deal only moderate damage. However, when combined with three of its six unique stones, it significantly boosts the player’s stats and unleashes a powerful, homing projectile attack. Players need to upgrade the Gauntlet to its maximum to attach the stones.
How to obtain the Talisman
To obtain the fully upgraded gauntlet, players need to collect six unique stones: Andvari’s Soul, Asgard’s Shard of Existence, Eye of the Outer Realm, Ivaldi’s Corrupted Mind, Muspelheim Eye of Power, and Njord’s Temporal Stone. However, upgrading it to its full potential requires a bit more effort.
Firstly, players need to complete the “Secondhand Soul” favor for Brok in the Volunder Mines to obtain Andvari’s Soul. Asgard’s Shard of Existence is a reward for defeating the Valkyrie Rota in Helheim. Meanwhile the Eye of the Outer Realm can be found in the Secret Chamber of Odin near the end of “Escape from Helheim.”
To obtain Ivaldi’s Corrupted Mind, players need to defeat the Valkyrie Olrun in Alfheim. The Muspelheim Eye of Power can be purchased from the dwarf brothers’ shop in Muspelheim. Finally, Njord’s Temporal Stone is a reward for defeating the Valkyrie Queen Sigrun at the Council of Valkyries.
