Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, or CS: GO for short, is one of the biggest eSports titles of all time in the world. The game was released over 10 years ago in the year 2012 and has since gone on to become bigger and bigger with time.

However, with the next-gen Counter-Strike on the way, Global Offensive’s days are now numbered as CS2 is going to have a plethora of improvements that will fix long-term issues that players had been facing in CS: GO.

CS: GO has held numerous world records in the gaming world with one of the most prestigious ones being the record for holding the most number of concurrent players around the world logged in at once.

It would seem that the game was able to break its own record for the second time around this year by breaking the previous record of having over 1.5 million players. This time by registering an even bigger number to its name.

CS: GO broke this record today by registering a concurrent total player count of over 1.8 million. The news is spreading amongst OG fans like wildfire as people were thinking of the game to be dead but it seems that the announcement of CS2 has rejuvenated the love for Counter Strike amongst people once again.

Though the upcoming release of CS2 isn’t being considered the only reason for the sudden spike in the player count in the game either. There are certain factors, both long term as well as short term that may as well have contributed heavily to Valve’s brainchild to reach these heights 11 years after its release.

With the record broken, there’s only one question that people are asking – how did this happen? What led to this event suddenly happening for the third time this year? Well there are a few reasons to explain this phenomenon.

For instance, apart from the hype around the highly anticipated CS2, there is also the fact that the price of CS: GO skins have been rising because of the skin retentiion factor of CS2. As well as the release of the new highly sought after skin line – Anubis. Whether it be the casual players trying to get their hands on the new skin, or just the hardcore CS fans that made it happen, each and every single person logged into CS made history yet again.
