Blizzard Entertainment’s most successful first-person shooter, Overwatch, finally got a follow-up last year in the form of Overwatch 2. Overwatch 2 was released on October 4, 2022, after a much-awaited release from its fan base. Developed by Blizzard Entertainment since its release, it has been receiving mostly positive reviews.
Overwatch even has an eSport of its own known as Overwatch League which has flourished over the years. Overwatch 2 is a team based 5 vs 5 FPS game that has multiple game modes, maps and a couple dozen characters players can choose from. Its predecessor, Overwatch 1 was similar differing only in the number of players in one game i.e 6 vs 6. This game is highly focused on teamwork and communication as the skills of characters can be mixed and matched and timed to perfection to give an outstanding and and satisfying outcome.
Overwatch 1 was a game that needed to be bought for players to play it. The price of Overwatch was almost $20 before the shutting down of its servers. Unlike its predecessor, the base game of Overwatch 2 is completely free to play and does not require you to pay any money to download and play the base game. It does not require you to purchase PlayStation Plus in order to play the game. Switching from a paid game to a free to play game, most of their revenue now comes from cosmetics and bundles you can purchase while in the game.

Benefits of owning Overwatch 1
Following the launch of Overwatch 2, Blizzard Entertainment shutdown servers of it previous game, Overwatch 1. Being a game that had to be bought, Blizzard gave players that owned Overwatch 1 before June 23 many benefits and rewards as consolation before the game shut down.
As Overwatch 1 was closing, all skins and data of players were transferred to Overwatch 2 with all heroes unlocked, which was not the case for F2P players that had joined newly. Players were also given the “Founder’s Pack” that contained few skins, a profile icon and access to 3 new heroes of Overwatch 2. In addition to this , players were also given access to the new hero “Kiriko” on launch. This left no chance for backlash from the Overwatch community.
