The highly popular God of War Ragnarok, released back in November 2022, recently released update patch 4.02. The new update addresses various bugs and other issues. The game became such a massive hit on the PlayStation that it sold around 11 million copies in just three months.

God of War developers have released patch note on regular intervals. This updates from time to time improve various aspects in God of War Ragnarok like the gameplay and have also added new features.

These features include a recent addition called the New Game+ mode. Furthermore, patch 4.02 added more armor sets, increased the level cap, and included new enchantments in the game. It also made changes to endgame bosses such as Valkyrie Queen Gna.

What to expect from the new update?

The newest patch update 4.02 of God of War Ragnarok consists of various Bug fixes in various departments. These include audio, combat, UI, and trophies. Since the game’s releases this patchwork has the biggest list of improvements for equipment’s. Players complained previously that they had not been able to upgrade certain pieces of equipment past level 9, this has been resolved. Besides that, this updated fixed the server crashing hindrance. It is quite possible these bugs started appearing after the launch of New Game+ update.

Furthermore, the new 4.02 update had some PlayStation specific changes and improvements as well. These include solving an issue where two characters will not appear in their assigned locations after skipping a cinematic in game. Additionally, the new update mends the booting issue of players getting sent to the main menu while loading a PS5 save file which players created after the PS4 New Game+ update.

Apart from these, 4.02 update in God of War Ragnarok fixed the trophy system too. Now players will get the “Spit Shine” trophy if they upgrade a New Game+ armor piece to level 9.

Bug Fixes

Audio

  • Fixed an issue where, in post-game in New Game+, the music from the end quest would play every time you entered from the main menu or restarted the checkpoint in Midgard.
  • Fixed a problem with dialogue lines that get skipped after a cinematic when acquiring the Mysterious Orb quest in New Game+.

Combat

  • Fixed an issue regarding the application, that it would crash while browsing through the sparring menu and choose “INGRID” as a companion.
  • Fixed an issue where Kratos branched into weapon move sets while in Fury rage mode.
  • Fixed a rare scenario in which Gná might use her Stomp too soon after using Wing Shard, resulting in player deaths on the Give Me God of War difficulty that were unavoidable.
  • Restarting from a checkpoint before the Björn boss fight’s opening cinematic no longer results in Kratos’ Rage Meter disappearing and prevents the player from switching the Rage they are wearing.

Equipment

  • Fixed a situation in which Kratos’ shield would physically vanish if the user upgraded the shield they were presently using to level 9.1 or higher without equipping the updated model as instructed.
  • Fixed an issue where, following installation of Patch 04.00, base game materials would not be offered for sale or purchase at the store.
  • Fixed an issue where, after upgrading from level 8 to level 9, the Pommels of the True Flame vanished from the Blades of Chaos weapon menu.
  • Fixed an issue when upgrading a shield to level 9.1 would not result in the player receiving a Gilded Coin.
  • Fixed an issue When upgrading Leviathan Axe, Blades of Chaos, or Draupnir Spear to level 9.1, the player would not get a Gilded Coin unless their attached attachment was improved first.
  • Fixed, the amount of the crafting material Divine Ashes available in the shop varied from the amount necessary in-game to enhance armor.
  • Fixed, after upgrading to Patch 04.00, the sled loot would drop a New Game+ resource during basic game advancement.
  • Fixed, The Digital Deluxe Edition gear Darkdale Waist Guard or Risen Snow Armor could not be upgraded past level 9 during New Game+ advancement.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented players from upgrading a component because the recipe for Soldier’s Sauroter was absent from the store in New Game+.
  • Fixed a situation where some weapon parts were removed from the store/Lost Items Chest but were still shown as being accessible.
  • Multiple enchantments were not always awarded during Favors, Treasure, or Crucible Chests, but this has been fixed. The Lost Items Chest will retroactively award any enchantments that were missed owing to this glitch.

World

  • Fixed a bug that caused the player to get stranded when Gná’s Camp became available after they finished the Muspelheim Challenges.

UI/UX

  • Fixed a bug in which a 9.1 weapon’s look could not be modified until the player upgraded to the 9.2 and above variations.
  • Fixed a missing line within the credits.

Trophies

  • Fixed a problem wherein upgrading a New Game+ armor component to level 9 did not result in the achievement of the “Spit Shine” trophy.

PS4-Only

  • Fixed a bug in which an area might take a few seconds to load when the player missed a cinematic after dashing to a door.
  • Fixed an issue where two characters did not appear in their appropriate locations after skipping the cinematic and moving swiftly down the path.
  • Fixed a problem wherein the player would become imprisoned within the Berserker Soul arena because Hardrefill the Callous did not spawn there.

Known Issues

  • Fixed, loading a PS5 manual save produced from an imported PS4 New Game+ file will take the player to the main menu.

WORKAROUND: After importing PS4 fresh Game+ save data to a PS5, continue playing until you have made a fresh Autosave. After that, you can make fresh Manual Saves that will not be affected by the aforementioned problem. Please keep in mind that this Manual Save must be in a new slot and must not overwrite your previous save data. If you replace your previous save data, the problem may persist in that file.
