Hasan ‘HasanAbi’ Piker is a Turkish- American Twitch streamer and a political commentator. In Turkish, ‘Abi’ means ‘big brother’. He is also a political streamer who has left wing opinions and streams about them on Twitch.

Hasanabi is one of the most popular streamers on Twitch and is well known for his political yet often controversial opinions on his livestreams. However, he is also associated with the gaming industry, wherein he can often be seen streaming with big personalities from eSports such as xQc, the OfflineTV group, and more.

HasanAbi previously worked as a broadcast journalist and producer at The Young Turks and as a columnist at HuffPost. He is currently one of the most viewed and most subscribed streamers on Twitch. He covers news, plays a variety of video games and discusses politics from a socialist point of view.

During his senior year of college in 2013, HasanAbi interned for The Young Turks, a progressive news show and network co-founded by his uncle, Cent Uygur. After graduating, Piker was hired by the network’s ad sales and business department. He would ask to host the show when a fill-in was needed and later became a host and producer.

In 2016, he created and hosted The Breakdown, a The Young Turks Network video series that aired on Facebook and presented left-leaning political analysis targeted toward millennial supporters of Bernie Sanders. The show was nominated in the “Best Web Series” category at the 10th Shorty Awards in 2018. He also wrote political content for Huffpost from 2016 to 2018.

HasanAbi started streaming on Twitch in March 2018 while also working for The Young Turks and justified that he shifted his attention from Facebook to Twitch in order to reach a younger audience. He also added that he felt a preponderance of right-wing commentators on YouTube and a lack of leftist representation among streamers. During the first 2020 United States Presidential debate on September 29, HasanAbi had over 125,000 viewers watching his commentary of the broadcast which was the highest viewership of the presidential debate on Twitch.
