The newest FPS game, Overwatch 2 by Blizzard Entertainment, is already a hit among the gaming community as the player count keeps growing steadily. With its fast-paced gameplay and over-the-top battle tactics, along with good shooting mechanics, it’s a fun and engaging game. The biggest upside to Overwatch 2 is that it is free to play.

Even though Overwatch 2 is constantly facing tough competition from its contemporary games like Apex Legends, Fortnite, and Warzone 2, it has managed to cement its place. As is the case with any game that wants to survive its competition, it needs to have a significant player base. This is why Blizzard constantly adds new content, like characters, fixes bugs, and offers various other cosmetics to keep the game interesting.

So far, Overwatch 2’s developers do not seem to publish any count of how many people are playing the game across all editions. So, we need to improvise and enlist the help of a third party that actually keeps track of the Overwatch 2 player count.

Active Player collects various in-game data and a few other educated guesses in order to compile a reasonable player count for Overwatch 2.

According to the Active Players Tracker, as of April 13th, 2023, Overwatch 2 has around 154,830 active players playing the game at the moment. Moreover, the Overwatch 2 player count has been at 1,714,332 every day since March. Besides that, it has seen almost 25,714,974 log-ins in the past 30 days.

In October last year, Blizzard announced on Twitter that since its launch, more than 25 million people had played Overwatch 2 in the first 10 days. As a lot of players from Overwatch itself wanted to try out something new, they joined new players who were lured in because it was free to play.

Below are the current statistics on the top five countries by active daily participation according to Player Counter.

  • Germany: 7.11%
  • Republic of Korea: 4.09%
  • Canada: 3.41%
  • Russia: 3.31%

As previously mentioned, Overwatch 2 is free to play and those who played Overwatch 1 will have an extra advantage. As Blizzard mentioned that Overwatch 1 players who unlocked various characters will have them carried forward in Overwatch 2. For new gamers they will have to start from scratch.
