How to defeat Cynthia, The Drowned Lady in Alan Wake 2?

The First phase of the fight against Cynthia in Ala Wake 2

During the campaign, when players catch up with Tor, in the Overlap area of the game, after Saga Anderson enters to room, players will find out that the room isn’t lit, once the lights are off Tor will disappear.

To light the room, they will have to have to power the terminal in the centre of the room with the assistance of the generator. Saga will interact with the power button, once this happens, Cynthia, the Drowned Lady will spawn. Players will have to run away and dodge her attacks.

Moreover, players are advised to concentrate on reaching and turning on the generator in the back hallway as Cynthia cannot be damaged during this phase. If Cynthia catches Saga, Cynthia will truly enact her name as the Drowned Lady and try to drown Saga and deal a rapid and instant death to her.

Players should use the rock and metal platforms that are spread out evenly through the water to rescue and manoeuvre Saga from the clutches of Cynthia. This can be a little challenging but should be possible with patience.

Once Saga is rescued and has escaped Cynthia for the time being, players should head towards the back room. It is far away from the room in which Cynthia spawns.

Players should follow the hallway and along their path, they will find a secret store room that contains a ton of ammo and medical supplies that will come in clutch in the battle ahead. Players are advised to stock up as much as possible in this room and take time to recover.

Once players get to the end of the hallway, they will find a chain-link fence with a broken area that they can manoeuvre through. Additionally, They will also find a generator here that they should switch on.

The Second phase

Once the room is lit, players can finally begin to damage and fight Cynthia. Cynthia will soon re-appear when Saga approaches the underside of the stairs(this turns off the lights). After this Players should instantly fire a flare at Cynthia that will stun her and give away her power source.

Once Cynthia is back in her senses, she will throw projectiles that cause massive damage to the player, they must dodge and avoid these projectiles with the help of the natural cover the room provides. Players should consistently fire their crossbows and damage the power source as much as possible.

You can find an opening to do this by using their charged flashlight to attack Cynthia The Drowned Lady. Having an upgraded crossbow is hugely beneficial as this will allow players the chance to fire two crossbow bolts before reloading.

The last Phase

Once Cynthia’s massive health pool is reduced to a critical amount, she will go into a mad-like frenzy mode where she starts moving rapidly and striking Saga. You should use their crossbow to damage her and once she comes close, they should switch to the shotgun and deal massive damage to her.

The Shotgun is the golden weapon at this point as in close quarters it is truly a force to be reckoned with. Players need to be vary of Cynthia as she can be very unpredictable during this frenzy phase, the Drowned Lady attacks the protagonist with full force in this stage.

Players should use their crossbow bolts as efficiently and effectively as possible to deal damage to her while maintaining distance. They should heal while in cover and stay as far from her as possible.

Finally, after defeating Cynthia The Drowned Lady, players should rapidly run to her body and loot any crossbow bolts possible. Resources are scarce and very valuable in Alan Wake 2, recovering these crossbow bolts may save the player’s life in a future encounter. After this, a cutscene triggers that starts progressing the story further.
