Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the most expansive and well-crafted open-world RPGs created in the last decade. The game allows players to write their own story in the mythical world of Faerun, explore its dungeons, and find answers to its mysteries.

Due to the massive nature of the game, Baldur’s Gate 3 gives players a vast plethora of companions to choose from. Different companions in the game provide various benefits to the player. One such type of companion is Shadowheart, a healer players can recruit very early into the game.

Helping Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3

Players will come across Shadowheart in a Mindflayer Pod shortly after the first combat encounter in the game. Shadowheart will be seen trying to escape from a pod that she has been trapped in for a long while.

Players can’t just brute force their way through freeing Shadowheart. They will have to first talk to her and assure her they will return and free her. After talking to Shadowheart, players should go toward the eastern exit, the door that is on the right-hand side of the control panel.

Players should make their way to the top of the stairs wherein they will find a dead body that possesses an Eldritch Rune. After players loot this from the body they should make their way back to Shadowheart.

Interacting with Shadowheart to free her

Players need to go to the control panel in the room in which Shadowheart is trapped and interact with it. Players should then insert the rune into the panel. After this, they will get informed that “something is squirming in their head”.

This is probably the first time that the parasite placed in their head will lead to future “Illithid” (Wisdom) checks. Players need to use their DC powers to” Will the pod to open”, this will lead to Shadowheart being freed.

After Shadowheart is free, she will officially join the player’s party until dismissed by the player later on. Shadowheart will be a crucial asset in the encounters that players will face ahead on their journey on Faerun. For the time being, she will be massively beneficial in the upcoming fight against commander Zhalk and his forces of averuns.
