Like most shooting games, positioning yourself is extremely important in Fortnite, especially according to the position of your opponents. Footsteps in Fortnite are a great way to find out where your opponents are. Knowing where your opponents are can give you a huge advantage. This will ensure you don’t get caught off-guard.
Additionally, you can get ready to take them down in a better position, such as high ground. This will highly benefit you in 1v1 duel situations. This becomes even more important in a mode such as Zeor build, where cover and elevation are significantly reduced. Finding out where players hide can be the difference between life and death.
Epic Games has greatly worked on the game’s audio. This lets you easily hear people walking around you and find their locations. However, sometimes the audio isn’t enough. Perhaps you don’t have a good headset to identify player locations based on audio. Other players may be unable to use the audio due to hearing problems or having to keep the voice down.
Thankfully, the developers have added a feature that lets you visualise footsteps on your screen. This displays footsteps and other audio cues on your screen, letting you know what sound was made and where it originated. Footsteps, gliders, and vehicle sounds are shown in white, explosions and gunfire in orange, and chests in golden. Tracking such sounds on the screen can also be much easier for some people.
Visualise Footsteps in Fortnite on your Screen
You can see Footsteps in Fortnite on your screen by slightly changing the game’s settings. Be aware that turning on the footstep visualiser disables 3-D audio. You will not be able to rely on surround sound to identify the directions of footsteps. Hence, you cannot use both features at the same time. Turn on footstep visualisation by doing the following –
- Launch Fortnite
- Press the pause button and navigate to the game settings.
- Switch to the audio tab in the game’s settings.
- Scroll down to the sound section.
- Turn on “Visualize Sound Effects” and apply the changes.
When you launch your next Fortnite game, you will notice a circle lighting up to indicate the direction of the origin of a sound. You will also notice a small icon and colour informing you about the sound type made. Note that this method is not fully reliable. A sound coming from behind you and below you will both light up at the bottom of the circle. Hence, make sure to always rely on your hearing abilities for the best results.
