In a first of its kind decision, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman while presenting the details regarding Budget 2022 under Narendra Modi government announced that the authorities are preparing to set up an AVCG (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics) task force that will help to promote this sector among the young generation.

Online gaming has been one of the most discussed topics in the pandemic era. From international companies investing in the country to homegrown organizations battling neck to neck with overseas companies to leave a mark upon this field, the gaming and animation industry has grown rapidly over the recent years. Furthermore, the announcement of the AVGC task force has caught the eyes of gaming industry experts as the government has given online gaming more recognition.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the new additions, changes in existing systems of the nation’s finance industry today in the presence of other Union ministers. Some of the key points of Budget 2022 were the focus on animation and gaming and empowering the youth build up this sector.

While presenting the Budget 2022-2023, Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comic (AVGC) offers immense potential to employ youth. “An AVGC promotion task force, with all stakeholders, will be set up to recommend ways to realize this and build domestic capacity for serving out markets and the global demand,” Sitharaman said.

It was also announced in Budget 2022 that the government plans to roll out 5G services in mobile phones within 2022-23 in major cities across India. This will significantly boost the development of animations, visual effects and other aspects as the industry is heavily reliant on online services. Several experts gave their post budget reactions on this announcement.

We welcome the steps that the finance minister of India as part of Budget 2022-2023 including the creation of the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comic (AVGC) task force. We hope that this task force can help promote the creation of a robust infrastructure for game development with gradual benefits to the esports community. We are also looking forward to the 5G spectrum auction this year. 5G can further promote the latest innovations and mass adoption of technologies like cloud gaming in the country.
