Activision Blizzard has had a lot of success over the past few years. The amount of revenue generated by the company is huge. And with that set in stone, Battle.net, the exclusive game client for Activision Blizzard, is making a huge decision. Moving forward, Blizzard will be bringing its popular games to Steam. Furthermore, the company is starting with one of its big successive titles, Overwatch 2. So, yes, in a nutshell, Overwatch 2 is coming to Steam.

Over the years, Blizzard’s Battle.net has tried its best to stay as an exclusive game client. However, that would be changing too. Other popular game clients like, Ubisoft, Origin, EA Sports, etc., already share their library with Steam. This has not only given them immense popularity but also a huge margin of revenue. Blizzard has decided to walk the same path as their counterparts and has decided to bring their game titles to Steam.

Blizzard received huge success when it released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 & Warzone 2.0 on Steam. So Blizzard is probably banking on the same outcome with their other titles. Moreover, the player base is perceiving this new outlook by the company in high spirits. Furthermore, the first game coming to Steam from Blizzard would be Overwatch 2.

During the recent Press release from Activision Blizzard, the company decided to bring its popular titles from its exclusive game client, Battle.net, to Steam. This is a huge change, as this could also define the future of many upcoming Activision Blizzard games. The press release by Activision read as follows:

“As we’ve evolved, the industry has evolved too–gaming is no longer just for specific communities as it was when Battle.net launched over two decades ago. Gaming is for everyone. And though we remain committed to continually investing in and supporting Battle.net, we want to break down the barriers to make it easier for players everywhere to find and enjoy our games.”

Overwatch 2 on Steam won’t require players to download Battle.net. However, they would still need to sync their Battle.net IDs to the game, similarly to platforms like Xbox, Playstation & Nintendo Switch. Blizzard is set to release Overwatch 2 on Steam on 11th August. Valve has already made the Steam page for the game, and players are eagerly awaiting the game’s release soon.

This is a big step from Blizzard. As of right now, only Overwatch 2 has been confirmed to be coming to Steam. However, considering the staggering success of Diablo 4, fans might see the game also arriving on Steam sometime soon. Furthermore, players are excited about the thought of exclusive game titles like WoW coming to Steam.
