Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 to Have Skill-Based Matchmaking (SBMM)?
Based on the beta last month, SBMM will be there in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
The idea of skill-based matchmaking (SBMM) in Modern Warfare 2 has often been discussed within the Call of Duty community. Many people want it to be reduced or removed altogether to create a more casual experience for players of all skill levels.
SBMM has featured in Black Ops Cold War and in Call of Duty Vanguard, resulting in a division of opinions within community once again. After the Modern Warfare 2 open beta, it is safe to say that the new title will have skill-based matchmaking as well.

Impact of Skill-Based Matchmaking (SBMM) in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on the Gaming Community
Skill-based matchmaking in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (2022) will work similarly to SBMM in other multiplayer games. Essentially, a system of algorithms works through matchmaking, matching all competitors in a lobby with players of similar skill.
This prevents a much better player from playing a much worse player, and in theory helps keep fights fair and fun. It is a feature that Dr. Disrespect dubbed as “terrible” in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 beta. Other streamers such as TimTheTatman and FaZe Doozy also criticized the addition of SBMM.
Unfortunately, there is some disagreement about skill-based matchmaking in the community. Streamers like Dr. Disprect have been heavily criticizing SBMM, while on Twitter, there are discussions suggesting that this argument is mainly led by streamers who want easy matchmaking for their clips and streams.
It has also been claimed that SBMM discourages players performances when returning after being away for too long, making content creation more difficult for streamers. Many believe that SBMM should not be prevalent in standard multiplayer matches.
It has been argued that since matches include varying difficulty levels, this feature should only be available in ranked games to ensure competitive matches. However, with SBMM coming to Modern Warfare 2, it will be interesting to see
how it fares in the community and whether it will have a positive or negative impact.
