“It kind of just bled into this game”: Chiefs WR reveals how Call of Duty Warzone shaped up chemistry with Patrick Mahomes
Patrick Mahomes' secret of team communication is Call of Duty: Warzone
Patrick Mahomes with the help of his teammates handed over an undaunting victory to his team Kansas City Chiefs after sweeping the San Francisco 49ers with an offensive 44-23 victory. A striking on-field chemistry was visible between JuJu Smith-Schuster, Chiefs’ WR and this surprisingly came from Call of Duty: Warzone.
The star players of Kansas City Chiefs were certainly seen in a different form than how they used to play initially as we saw JuJu Smith receiving more passes from Patrick Mahomes, trusting him quite better than the other players. This raised eyebrows and eventually, questions were kept for JuJu.
The answer coming from him was quite surprising as he revealed that the chemistry between them did not come through any special behind-the-scenes practice but a Call of Duty: Warzone game together with some of his teammates including Patrick Mahomes.
In his recent interview he stated, “Obviously, preseason (and) camp, but I’m going to tell you what got us the chemistry that we needed this game.” He was further quoted saying, “I think it was Friday night — it was me, Pat (Mahomes), Travis (Kelce) and (Marquez Valdes-Scantling), we were playing Call of Duty: Warzone together.”

The former Pittsburgh Steelers player explained that he and his off-field teammates such as Patrick Mahomes were able to maintain a winning streak in Call of Duty: Warzone, winning 3 games back to back. As per the words of JuJu Smith-Schuster, playing the battle-royale ‘Call of Duty: Warzone’ was almost playing a NFL match.
“And you could just like tell because of the communication between all of us and the chemistry, it was like we were in an (NFL) game. . . it kind of just bled into this game. It kind of just showed on the field.”
While JuJu Smith is known to be an avid fan of video games, the scenario is quite different for Patrick Mahomes as he has previously stated how he avoids distraction before any match. However, tables turned on his last match as he believed that the game might have made an impact on his on-field chemistry with his teammates.
"It kind of gets your mind off of just football and it’s about building those relationships. So it’s definitely cool to see those guys, even if it’s in a game, outside of the facility.”

The NFL star admitted that JuJu (JuJu Smith-Schuster) and Marquez (Valdes-Scantling) are quite good at the game whereas he isn’t as he doesn’t get the time to play it regularly. It was however, surprising for him as he felt ‘pretty good’ winning three games simultaneously.
Furthermore during his interview, JuJu Smith Schuster was in all praise for Patrick Mahomes, referring him as the ‘X-Factor’ of their team likening it to another video game ‘Madden 23’. He also stated that while Mahomes is certainly in his top game right now, he is trying his best as well to become the ‘X-Factor’.
Call of Duty: Warzone is a battle-royale game by Activision which is getting its mobile spin-off quite soon. Considering how this game shaped up their never-seen before chemistry in a particular match, the NFL stars might start another video gaming session soon.
