Copenhagen Flames

CEO of Danish Esports org Copenhagen Flames, Steffen Thomsen has filed for bankruptcy. The org’s Counter Strike Global Offensive roster was disbanded on April 28 and the org finally shut down after seven years of admirable performance.

Copenhagen Flames was established on 1st July 2016 nourishing many young Danish CS:GO talents throughout the years. The organization had three teams, all competing in CS:GO (A men’s roster, a women’s team and an academy lineup). The men’s roster had spectacular CS:GO talents like Asger “Farlig” Jensen and Johannes “b0RUP” Borup who had shown great performances through the years. The team performed very well in previous eSports tournaments even qualifying for the Majors twice.

The first Major Copenhagen Flames men’s roster qualified for was the PGL Major Stockholm in 2021 securing the 10th position out of the 24 participating teams. However its biggest achievement was qualifying for the PGL Major Antwerp 2022 in the Legends bracket with some of the biggest teams in CS:GO. The team had placed first in the PGL Major Antwerp 2022 European qualifiers, beating favorites like G2 Esports and Astralis to secure a spot in the Legends bracket.

Copenhagen Flames ceased operations and laid off its full staff and team filing for bankruptcy. The organization’s CEO Steffen Thomsen announced the news on their official twitter account and thanked the fans for their undying support. “I am immensely proud of what we achieved during these past 7 years without ever compromising our values, our mission or our conscience,” he said.

Just two weeks earlier, the organization had announced that they were seeking an investment of $740,000 USD to balance their logbooks and launch a series of schemes to secure their profitability for 2024. However they were not able to secure the investment resulting in bankruptcy. The organization was struggling after the 2022 PGL Major due to thier star players like Jakob “jabbi” Nygaard and Ramus “Hooxi” Nielsen joining bigger orgs like Heroic and G2 eSports. The current team failed to qualify for major tournaments like IEM Rio and BLAST Paris Major causing immense loss in their revenue.

Danish AWPer Asger ‘Farlig’ Jensen, who played for the men’s roster, that this was a “sad day” for eSports. Losing a great CS:GO team has left numerous fans heartbroken.
