Esports at Commonwealth Games 2022: As a consequence of the partnership inked between Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) and Global Esports Federation (GEF), Esports is all set to mark its beginning at the Commonwealth Games 2022 as a pilot event.
The popularity of eSports has skyrocketed in the pandemic generation as more teenagers as well as a fragment of the adult population, the core audience of eSports are expressing their interest to enter the world of electronic sports. If the previous year saw a sundry number of huge eSports events, this year is going to see the breakthrough of eSports getting recognized as an official sport at prestigious events.

Esports at Commonwealth Games 2022
In an official press release, published by the Global Esports Federation, it has been informed that the strategic partnership announced on May 2020 between CGF and GEF will bring Commonwealth Esports Championship and set up a forum that will be staged in Birmingham in the month of August this year.
Esports at Commonwealth Games 2022 will take place at the ICC (International Convention Centre) in Birmingham on August 6-7, 2022 as a pilot event which means medals would not be awarded to the players in the official event. Although, the Esports Championship will have a separate branding, medals and organization.
“Esports is continuing to grow dramatically in terms of popularity and participation, particularly amongst young people, and we are continuing to look at ways to explore how it can align with the Commonwealth Sports Movement. Commonwealth Esports Championships provides an excellent opportunity to pilot esports close to the Commonwealth Games,” commented CGF president Dame Louise Martin.
The official press release has reported that renowned titles from across the world will feature at the Commonwealth Games 2022. Esports athletes from the Commonwealth nations will be able to take part in the event. Therefore, it is expected that globally popular titles such as PUBG Mobile, Free Fire, Valorant, DOTA 2 and other games would be played in Esports at Commonwealth Games 2022.
Esports at Commonwealth Games 2022 aims to engage new audiences, showcase the digital and gaming credentials of the West Midlands and explore the potential of eSports further. It has also been informed that Esports at Commonwelath Games 2022 might also become a medal event in near future.
It is important to note that that this is not the first time that Esports is getting such a huge recognition this year as Asian Games 2022 had already announced the inclusion of Esports with eight titles as a medal event. With Esports making its way to such prestigious platforms and various countries addressing the growth of eSports, the future of eSports looks quite bright globally.
