Elon Musk (L) and the fake Mario image (R)
With Elon Musk taking charge as the leader of Twitter post his $44 billion buyout, users are witnessing some unnecessary changes on the platform with the first one being the ‘paid verification’ system that is allowing scammers to pose as official accounts and post satirical content, generally to mock the new policies or even the business magnate himself.
At the forefront of these trail of fake accounts, we saw Jesus Christ tweeting that was enough to send users into a frenzy. Apart from that, another picture from a verified account is doing rounds on the social media as it shows the iconic video game character ‘Mario‘ from the Super Mario series putting out his middle finger in the front.
The offensive image had enough reasons to go viral as it was posted by Nintendo of America that had a blue verified tick on its account, but if users take a closer look, they will find a weird username ‘nIntendoofus’. The image spread like wildfire and had everyone’s attention until it caught the eyes of the officials as they suspended the account within hours.

Elon Musk’s new Twitter policies creates nothing but turmoil

The new verification policy laid out on the platform asked users to pay a subscription of $8 if they wish to retain their verified status. However, it was promised that several benefits would come along with this nominal fee per month but apparently, it brought nothing but hilarity and confusion.
As soon as the policies were implemented, scammers crowded in huge numbers to create fake accounts of notable personalities. Even Elon Musk, wasn’t spared as an account posing himself as the business giant, started spreading false rumors. It, later on led to the account getting suspended.
The verification-for-all system initially received a huge backlash as some of the prominent personalities across the world such as Stephen King were hesitant to pay the fees, as it goes against ‘principles’, according to him. Even content creators highlighted how they have been getting spam DMs from ‘verified’ accounts that has been a menace so far.
Regardless, everyone, including scammers have started subscribing to get verified on Twitter but the latter users are inclined more on creating a bewildering situation for other users.

The offensive image had led Mario fans spam the official Nintendo account with complaints but the company hasn’t given out an official response on this issue. Nevertheless, people have also been calling out Elon Musk but it seems that the Tesla owner is somehow enjoying these complaints.
