Just when their real-world rivals are heating up, FIFA 23 is getting ready to launch two new women’s competitions. On the eve of the 2023 season, the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) will become the third women’s football league, joining the Division 1 Arkema and the Barclays Women’s Super League.

Also, in preparation for this year’s knockout stages, the UEFA Women’s Champions League introduces four new clubs to FIFA 23 as well as European nights. The Barclays Women’s Super League and Division 1 Arkema in FIFA 23 will both be driven by the same specialized Hypermotion2.

The National Women’s Soccer League is arriving in FIFA 23, as revealed on the PlayStation blog. According to a licensing agreement the organization recently inked with the league and NWSL Players Association, Electronic Arts revealed on Monday that all 12 NWSL teams would be playable in the game beginning March 15th. Moving forward, the franchise will include all of the 12 NWSL teams and the female athletes who compete for them, even after it changes its name to EA Sports FC later this year.

All 24 teams from the Women’s Super League and Division 1 in the UK and France were part of the FIFA 23 launch. Chelsea’s Sam Kerr was on the Ultimate Edition cover of the game, which was the first time EA had a female player on the cover.  All considered, since FIFA 16, when EA Sports first included professional female players, the series has advanced significantly.

All 12 NWSL teams will be playable in FIFA 23’s Kick-Off game modes starting on March 15. Also, they will be accessible in the game’s Tournament Mode, Online Seasons, and Friendlies. According to EA, players will witness an “authentic” match broadcast if both sides are from the NWSL.

Separately, EA is including the choice to play through the Kick-Off and Tournament game modes of the UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL). In order to complete the UWCL experience in FIFA 23, four other European clubs, including Juventus and Real Madrid, are being added.

“The athletes that call the NWSL home are some of the best in the world and we’re excited for the opportunity to further showcase their talent through this unique gaming experience,” said NWSL Commissioner Jessica Berman. “We can’t wait for fans to begin playing and we look forward to continuing this celebration of the players and the league when we kick off our 11th season on March 25.”
