Fuslie cites Twitch’s DMCA problem as incentive to move

Fuslie had previously gotten 2 DMCA strikes on Twitch which was concerning for her

Fuslie had been streaming on Twitch for more than 7 years, making the move a major choice she had to make in her career. She even got emotional in a stream which many thought to be her final on the platform, days after which she announced her move on her socials.

On her first YouTube stream, Fuslie opened up on the reasons behind her move to the platform. She explained Twitch’s system of handling DMCA takedowns had been a major proponent affecting her choice, claiming YouTube’s system of giving warnings before issuing a DMCA strike was better compared to the one in place on Twitch.

Fuslie explained how on Twitch, you could receive DMCA strikes even for clips from streams which happened years ago. She had received 2 strikes due to this policy, and if she went on to get another strike, Twitch would have taken her channel down permanently.

“When I was talking to the Twitch higher-ups — I was talking to people high up at Twitch — and they were saying, ‘Hey, there’s nothing we can do to help you,' — That freaked me out.”

Fuslie added that the only solution she received from Twitch was that she could take down every clip made on her channel, but they didn’t have any system to remove the clips. “That was terrifying” she added.

Fuslie said that the sense of security, that she won’t lose her career the moment she makes another mistake, was a major factor to move to YouTube apart from the financial incentive she received for signing the exclusive contract. Fuslie now joins Myth, Valkyrae and Ludwig among others who have switched over to YouTube as their streaming platform of choice.
