Hogwarts Legacy is the latest open-world RPG adventure developed by Warner Bros. Games. It is based on the Wizarding World featured in Harry Potter books and media. However, it is set in a time period 100 years (approx.) prior to the events of Harry Potter. The game also features a completely original storyline. That means it’s nothing like what you have seen or read before.

However, since it is in the same universe as Harry Potter, Potterheads want to know whether the game’s lore is canon to what they have witnessed in movies and books. It was made clear that J.K. Rowling has no involvement in the storyline. They are using a completely new story, so it is an obvious concern.

Hogwarts Legacy isn’t canon in Harry Potter

Despite having strong connections to the overall history, Hogwarts Legacy does not seem to be part of the Harry Potter canon. It might be disappointing to many Potterheads but it wasn’t surprising. The intention is clear: Hogwarts Legacy is designed to stand on its own, as are its characters, with the world’s events taking place in the 1800s. It is intended to be understandable to everyone who might like this world, regardless of whether they were raised with the earlier content. Devs said they’ll “map out new ground” for the enlarged Wizarding World.

Avalanche has not formally confirmed this, although they have stated that the game is “anchored in Wizarding World history.” As a result, you can anticipate references to and linkages to recognizable worlds. For starters, You’ll see the same Hogwarts Castle, Hogsmeade, etc. Players will be sorted into houses just like they saw in the movies. You will see some familiar names in the game. Like Phineas Nigellus black (ancestor of Sirius Black), Professor Matilda Weasley, part of the well-liked wizarding family from the Harry Potter Series, The Weasleys.

The game is out now globally. Despite it not being canon, you can fulfill your dream of riding on a broom, roaming in the wood of the Wizarding World, and casting spells from your wand.
