Even a week after its release, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer still has some problems with some of the in-game features and functionality. Since the very first day of release, sound problems have plagued the shooter’s servers, and many players continue to experience problems with the in-game audio elements today.
The “Mic not working” problem is one of the most troublesome errors that the community currently has to cope with in the game. Players are unable to utilize their devices to access Modern Warfare 2’s voice chat feature when the issue is present.

Methods to Fix Your Mic in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Here are various methods to try and fix your mic in the game:
Change default sound settings
You can pick the “Microphone Device” option in the Voice Chat part of the Voice Chat section by navigating to the “Audio” tab of the “Settings” menu. From the drop-down, you will need to select the mic that you are using. If the mic is already selected, then by de-selecting it and then re-selecting it, you may be able to solve the error in the game.
Checking Windows sound settings
You must first exit the game, and press ‘Start’ again in order to access the “Windows Sound Settings.” In this case, you will also need to manually choose a default audio input device. To make the device you’re using the default one, try deselecting it first, then reselecting it if it’s already selected.
Update audio drivers
Many Call of Duty players appear to have found a solution by updating their Windows audio drivers. In order to do this, you must first open the device manager, double-click the Sound option, and then expand the option. The next step is to choose “Microphone,” and then finally choose “Update driver.”

Troubleshoot and check hardware problems
If all else fails, you will be needed to run a program for troubleshooting that will automatically try to figure out what the problem is with your mic. You can take an extra step and see if the microphone functions properly in other games since the hardware is also likely to be the cause of the problem.
Furthermore, since Activision is to blame for the issue faced in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, there isn’t yet a long-term fix for the “Mic not working” error. Users on PCs continue to experience issues with voice input, despite the Call of Duty developers recently introducing a patch that dramatically enhanced the sound functionality on PlayStation consoles.
