Imposters Mode in Fortnite disables the divisive feature

The proximity voice chat feature in Fortnite’s Impostors Mode has been removed, according to Epic Games. The news was announced on the Fortnite Status Twitter account today. The proximity voice feature is no longer available, although Voice Chat can still be used.

It’s unclear at this moment whether this is a temporary fix for an issue or if the removal will be permanent. The removal has received mixed reviews on Twitter; some users are sad that the feature is presently missing, while others point out that racist and toxic comments have recently become a serious concern.

If the removal is only temporary, we should hear from Epic Games soon about when it will be available again. The publisher, on average, resolves complaints fairly swiftly. Hopefully, Epic Games will clarify the decision in any case, and provide a more comprehensive update than the one provided above.

Racism and toxicity have long been issues in online games, and it’s probable Epic Games eliminated the function to make the experience more enjoyable. However, unless we know the particular causes, it’s all supposition.

The addition of Impostors Mode to Fortnite in August drew obvious comparisons to Among Us. Impostors Mode, like InnerSloth’s game, has two players working behind the scenes to disrupt the rest of the group’s intentions. Players can even vote someone out if they think they’re an impostor.

The mode’s resemblance to Among Us was a significant letdown for the InnerSloth crew, but there have been hints that the two games would feature some sort of official crossover in the near future. Fans will have to make do with the Fortnite mode inspired by the actual thing for the time being!
