Some pretty notable changes have been made by Infinity Ward in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Infinity Ward has detailed some of the changes made to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in response to feedback from the game’s beta last month. These updates are pretty massive as well and are definitely worth taking a look at ahead of the game’s launch tomorrow on October 28.

In a post on the Developer’s website, the team broke down several categories of changes, including changes relating to audio, UI, and motion. Most of these changes came from feedback of the open beta held in September, but they apply to the story campaign of Modern Warfare 2 as well.

First, Infinity Ward revealed that the beta feedback was used to increase enemy visibility. According to the developers, this was implemented by adding a diamond-shaped symbol to the enemy’s head, making them clearly identifiable in-game. Also, lighting and contrast have been optimized to improve enemy visibility.

Modern Warfare 2’s audio has also undergone some tweaks prior to its release. There is an update which has shortened the total range of footstep audio to allow enemy players to get close to their target before detecting footsteps. Players can also expect their teammates’ footsteps to be quieter.

Infinity Ward has also adjusted one major drawback of using the Dead Silence field upgrade. Previously, the activation was audible enough to let the player know when an enemy activated the stealth ability, but the activation sound of the Dead Silence effect has been significantly reduced.

The UI in the Modern Warfare 2 beta was a bit complicated, but it should be easier to navigate the menus on its official launch. According to the developer, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s user interface has been improved with improved menu navigation, making accessing and customizing loadouts more easier.

As previously announced, changes have been made to the Modern Warfare 2 third-person playlist. This leaves the player in a third-person perspective unless aiming with a scope higher than a 4x zoom. Previously, aiming with a weapon would automatically switch the player to first-person view. Other changes mentioned in the Modern Warfare 2 Launch Update were vague announcements relating to weapon tuning, improved player movement, and reduced lobby disbandment in matchmaking between games.
