The Minecraft movie is one of the most anticipated video game movies of all time. Based on the universe of the most-sold video game of all time, it is expected to be a major Hollywood production with a humongous, but unknown budget. Details about the movie have been fairly scarce. However, fans have started to get some new information as the shooting begins.

A report released on January 2nd, 2024, indicates that Kung Fu Panda’s voice actor for Po, Jack Black, will be taking on the role of the protagonist in the upcoming Minecraft movie. The movie has seen several delays due to COVID-19. It was originally supposed to start shooting in August 2023 in New Zealand. However, the shooting was delayed to January 2024.

The movie is now set for release on April 4th, 2025. Details about the movie are scarce. Mojang Studios have gone on record saying that they wish to tell one of the countless possible stories within the Minecraft universe, avoiding a definitive canon. Some speculate it could involve a new player discovering the world and its challenges, encountering classic mobs and building structures.

Steve’s iconic look comprises of his cyan t-shirt, blue pants and a pickaxe in hand. The character has no lore in the game, but the Minecraft movie is looking to change that.

The movie has been confirmed to be a live-action film, with hybrid animated elements. It will be interesting to see how the beloved actor takes on the role of the iconic Minecraft character. The combination of Jack Black and director Jared Hess suggests a movie full of adventure and humour.

Jack Black has always been a go-to guy for video game movies. He voiced the famous villain Bowser in the recently-released Super Mario movie. Black also stars as Claptrap in the upcoming Borderlands adaption and in two Jumanji flicks. He will be joining the stellar line-up of Danielle Brooks, Emma Myers and Jason Momoa set to star in the movie.
