Despite Valorant having a fantastic year, its creator Riot Games keeps revealing surprising statistics about the game every once in a while. The most-played agent in 2022 has been officially confirmed by the developer. Despite the fact that agents like Chamber, Viper, and Sage predominate the game, Reyna took the top spot.
In a recent Twitter post, Valorant revealed that Reyna is the most-played agent in 2022. It was surprising as players expected agents like Chamber or Jett to be on the top of this list, but Reyna just blew the competition out of the water.
Reyna is duelist class. She has Leer, that near sights all enemies who see it; Devour, by which she can just pop her HP to the maximum amount;Dismiss, Which makes her intangible for a short period of time; and her ultimate, Empress, which increases her firing rate and reload speed. Along with that while her ult lets her heal without pressing devour ability and when she activates Dismiss, she becomes invisible.
There are many factors that led Reyna to climb the top of the mountain, so let’s dive into it.

Reyna becomes the most played Valorant Agent in 2022
2022 saw the release of 2 episodes and 6 acts. In Episode 4 act 1, Jett was the most picked agent with a 12.9% pick rate because everyone knows how top-class duelist Jett is, but Reyna wasn’t far off with a 12.1% pick rate. Jett continued her reign as a top-picked agent till episode 4 act 2 but, at the start of Act 3, she got her kit nerfed and players couldn’t just dash away with a single click while they needed to activate Tailwind before actually dashing away. Jett’s pick rate dropped and after that Empress just popped up as the most-picked agent in all the acts after Episode 4 Act 2.
What made Reyna top the list?
Reyna is a sub-par agent whose kit mostly works only for her. Her Leer is the only ability that helps other teammates as such. She’s only viable if your feeling yourself and getting consistent kills because her whole kit depends on that. Her kit on paper seems very powerful on paper but when it comes to practical application, it’s a bit tricky. In the right hands, she can be a menace, and dealing with her can be a difficult task. She is among those few agents who have the potential to take multiple kills.
Reyna being on top is mainly due to 2 factors:
1). The Rank distribution of valorant shows us that majority of players sit somewhere between the Silver and Lower platinum leagues. In these lower ranks, Reyna is a demon. Players in these ranks whiff more than players in higher ranks and it helps Reyna players to capitalize on that. A consistent aim is a key against Reyna and if you miss your first shot then it’s just over for you.
2). Earlier this year, Valorant devs buffed her Leer by removing range restrictions. This change made her viable in larger maps like Breeze. This seems like a minor tweak but it made her very good due to the fact that it can be hard to break the Leer eye from a long distance and you can get eliminated while doing so. Players in higher Elos also started picking her now and then.
On top of these reasons, in lower ranks, Reyna is the favorite pick for players with Smurf accounts. You can probably see a smurfing Reyna in every match in lower-league matches.
Other Agents With higher pick rates
After crunching the numbers, thanks to the Blitz.gg for stats, it was apparent that after Reyna, Sage and Jett were the most picked agent followed by Raze and Chamber. Jett and Chamber were evidently the best agents in the game. Raze kits synergizes well with the meta team comp. In the case of Sage, it could be due to the rank distribution.
Whatever these pick rates suggest, you should always use those agents with whom you’re more comfortable and that match your playstyle.
