“It’s unnecessary to hate on it,” Fortnite star Mr Savage shares his thoughts on the Epic Games BR being labeled a ‘kid’s game’
The Fortnite pro gave his thoughts on the criticism Fortnite receives.
Since its release in 2017, Fortnite has been a lightning rod for controversy. The game’s massive popularity and unique blend of shooting, building, and survival mechanics have drawn in players of all ages. However,it has also attracted its fair share of criticism. One common criticism of the game is that it’s “just for kids,” and that anyone over the age of 12 who plays it is childish or immature. But for Martin Foss Andersen, better known as Mr Savage, one of Fortnite’s most successful and popular players, this criticism is unnecessary.
In a recent interview with popular eSports journalist Jake Lucky, Mr Savage shared his thoughts on why labeling Fortnite as a “kid’s game”. “They criticise Fortnite as a kid’s game. What would you say to those kind of critics who said that?” Jake Lucky asked Mr Savage’s input on Fortnite’s critics calling it a ‘kid’s game’. “There is a lot of kids playing it, you know? I don’t know. I think it’s fair. But it’s unnecessary to hate on it for that reason.”
According to Mr Savage, Fortnite’s player base does consist of a lot of kids. He thinks it’s fair to call Fortnite a ‘kid’s game’. “Because we all played it. Everyone played Fortnite at one point basically. It’s kinda weird hating on it when you used to play it,” Mr Savage explains how everyone has played the game at one point or another in their life.

Mr Savage talks about his earnings from Fortnite
Jake Lucky put forth an interesting question about Mr Savage’s competitive Fortnite earnings. “For the people calling Fortnite a kid’s game, how much earnings do you have, competitively, in Fortnite? And for the viewers at home, how old are you?”
“I have like $400,000, $500,000 in earnings. And I’m 18 years old.” Mr Savage explained how he has earned almost half a million dollars from competitive Fortnite. This is an impressive feat, especially considering the fact that Mr Savage is just 18 years old.
“A kid’s game does alright for a kid, you know?” Mr Savage played into the initial discussion and explains that games like Fortnite brings opportunities for kids and other people around his age. He explained that dismissing it as a “kid’s game” is not only unnecessary but also counterproductive. By pigeonholing the game as something that only children are interested in, critics are missing out on the opportunity to appreciate its many unique features and mechanics. They are also perpetuating the harmful stereotype that video games are inherently childish or immature, which is simply not true.
Mr Savage’s thoughts on Fortnite as a “kid’s game” offer a refreshing perspective on a game that has been unnecessarily criticized for its perceived youthful appeal. As one of the game’s most successful players, Mr Savage knows firsthand the level of skill and strategy required to excel, and he is passionate about spreading awareness of the game’s many merits. Whether you’re a seasoned Fortnite veteran or a curious newcomer, there’s no denying that Mr Savage’s insights are worth taking into consideration.
