Jimmy ‘MrBeast’ Donaldson usually maintains a calm personality on social media. However, he was unable to contain himself after reading a recent article about him. Apparently this article attacked his decision to cure the blindness of 1K people.
The article in question is written by TechCrunch, a popular American online newspaper that focuses on the news related to technology, business and new start-ups. The very title of the article raises questions as it states that MrBeast has displayed systemic albeism through his blindness curing video.
It also states that such type of videos, “reinforces a moral superiority of sorts by those without disabilities over those who are disabled”. Continuing further the writer has mentioned that nothing is known about the ‘visual acuities’ of people who underwent the surgeries. This makes MrBeast’s video as ‘essentially baseless’.
Providing a response to this news piece that was published recently, the content creator tweeted, “So you’d prefer we don’t help people get life changing surgery they want and they asked for?”. The Kansas native was clearly disappointed at this interpretation of his video as he hit out at the publisher by asking whether they’ll prefer if these people were bereft of life-changing surgeries.
MrBeast ‘curing blindness’ step became his most controversial video
MrBeast is not a stranger to philanthropic works. He has dedicated his entire earnings from ‘MrBeast Philanthropy’ to spend in charities, fundraising as well as taking massive initiatives. For instance, Team Seas and Team Trees is one of the most successful project undertaken by him.
He has since taken lot of steps to help people or provide them with money once they complete his challenge. His latest effort to cure the blindness of 1K people by offering to pay for their surgeries has also seen a lot of positive reactions.
On the flip side, some users have been terming this video to be ‘clout-chasing’. They have been calling out the content creator for taking advantage through this and gaining more viewers. MrBeast has already replied to these criticisms through a sarcastic tweet.
He indicated that people do not hesitate to point fingers at him. This comes after they have agreed that rich people should help out those in need through their money.
Jimmy Donaldson has not given a proper statement on the recent controversy. However, he has provided hints which clearly imply that he is disappointed to witness the backlash for a ‘good’ initiative.
Social media reactions
Twitter users have become largely critical of the publication. Most of them are supporting MrBeast and calling this as a ‘bad take’. Twitch streamer Asmongold thanked TechCrunch for providing him with ‘content’.
MrBeast has received more than 100 million views on this video. Nevertheless, the video has left the community divided on the initiative taken by the content creator on curing blind people.
