Since Elon Musk’s takeover of the company, he has been trying to get content creators like MrBeast to upload their content on X, formerly Twitter. One of the ways he is attracting creators to the platform is by sharing a cut of the ad revenue generated by the platform with the creators themselves. This model is nothing new, as YouTube has been doing a similar split for years.

Recently, MrBeast uploaded a video about spending a week in solitary confinement. The content creator went to X to promote his newly-published video.

Over 7 million people saw his tweet, including a popular Dogecoin artist who saw the tweet and asked MrBeast to upload his video on X as well.

Surprisingly, the billionaire Elon Musk saw this reply. He responded with the word “Yeah” in order to convince MrBeast to upload his videos on the platform. The biggest individual YouTuber posting his videos to X would be a huge deal. However, MrBeast refused to accept the South African billionaire’s offer.

MrBeast responded to Elon Musk and told him that his videos cost millions of dollars to produce. Even if the videos could get a billion views on the X platform, this wouldn’t result in enough revenue for him to fund a fraction of the production cost.

However, the popular personality added that he would be willing to test it once the monetization on the platform is “really cracking.”

My videos cost millions to make and even if they got a billion views on X it wouldn’t fund a fraction of it :/ I’m down though to test stuff once monetization is really cranking!

The revenue system on X is simply not on the same level as other platforms. Firstly, creators are only paid when ads are shown to verified Twitter users. This takes away a significant proportion of their potential revenue. The process of being eligible to earn money on X is also much more complicated and harder than YouTube.

Many creators have also confessed that the money they earn from X is much less than what they earn on YouTube for the same amount of impressions and views. Many companies also refuse to display their ads on X, affecting sponsorships.

MrBeast is clearly aware of these issues, which is a major reason for denying Elon Musk’s offer to post his content on the platform.
