“Some of the worst I have ever talked to,” NAF revealed why he chose Team Liquid over Evil Geniuses

Keith “NAF” Markovic is one of the best CS: GO pros in the North American region. He is very consistent and pulls out frags. He was part of Team Liquid for many years, but after the disappointing 2021 season, he engaged in talks with Evil Geniuses, and nearly joined the org. However, due to some circumstances he decided to stay with Team Liquid. The future of Team Liquid player, Keith “NAF” Markovic, was surrounded with doubt. But now that the Canadian rifler has extended his contract with Liquid until 2024, all rumors about his future are officially over. He was the first pro to be announced for the 2022 season in Team Liquid.

NAF recently talked about this incident on “The Mauisnake Show”. NAF discussed his extensive career, his emotional connection to the “-FLY” portion of his tag, his time on OpTic, and his close call with joining NRG’s team. Later, NAF and Mauisnake started discussing the widely rumored move to Evil Geniuses and the reasons the rifler ultimately decided against making the move.

Due to CS: GO’s busy tournament schedule, Ethan ‘Ethan’ Arnold had no desire to return from Valorant, which prevented NAF from drafting the roster he had in mind for EG. In addition, NAF’s interactions with the administration of Evil Geniuses left him disappointed, which was another factor in his decision not to move orgs. NAF Said –

I didn’t want to play with Liquid towards the end of 2021. I was having some issues with how the team was being run, how it operated at times, how some players could act sometimes

When I was talking to EG management, I don’t want to go into detail… that was some of the worst management I think I have ever talked to, probably in my life. EG surely knows that as well. They’re clearly not handling their team properly at all. I was like: Liquid is light-years ahead of this organization and I would be an idiot to go and join this team.

He criticized the way EG was handling the team. NAF also claimed that EG might be the worst management he has talked with.

Evil Geniuses has been criticized heavily for the poor management of their CS: GO team. The Evil Geniuses’ CS: GO team has fallen outside the top 20 in the world rankings. NAF stated that Team Liquid is way ahead of EG and it would have been a poor move if chose to join EG. However, he also praised the Evil geniuses because of their history. He said

I talked to them for an hour and I was like, ‘I’m not joining this disaster’. I came back to Liquid and I was like, ‘I’m down to make things work, let’s talk about it, and let’s get things going.’

The Canadian not only refused to hide his reasons for rejecting the transfer, but he also offered a tiny bit of explanation for why Team Liquid was so dysfunctional in 2021.

“I didn’t want to play with Liquid towards the end of 2021. I was having some issues with how the team was being run, how it operated at times, and how some players could act sometimes.”

In the interview, NAF also shared his thoughts on how successfully oSee fit into Liquid. He also explained why the inexperienced AWPer’s entrance into CS: GO team went more smoothly than that of Grim the year before.

“When oSee first joined the team I think he was a pretty good influence, and just listening to how he would talk and the way he would bring things, he would be more confident,” NAF opined. “Whereas when we picked up Grim, we said ‘you’re just going to play anchor roles, just listen to what people have to say.”
