Palworld becomes the top-selling and most-played game on Steam within 24 hours of its release

Palworld, a new action-adventure survival game, has been dubbed “Pokemon with guns.” The game was released on 19 January 2024 for the Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Microsoft Windows. Palword has shattered numerous records since its launch only a day ago, eclipsing player counts of multiple AAA Games.

Palworld is developed and published by Japanese Studio Pocket Pair. The game occurs in an open world with animals called “Pals.” You can capture and battle these Pals for base building, traversing around the environment, and combat.

Palworlds is seeing success no one expected it to. In fact, the game is doing so well that it has resulted in many servers struggling to keep up. A lack of dedicated servers has restricted players on Xbox to four players in co-op mode. In comparison, players on Steam can enjoy co-op mode with up to 32 players.

Pocket Pair’s developers also had an emergency meeting with Epic Games to discuss connectivity concerns. The team released an update to the Epic Games backend to resolve issues players experienced while hosting co-op sessions on both PC and Xbox. The studio also added that players should now experience improved connectivity in their sessions.

Palworld overtakes CS2 and Dota 2 to become the highest-played Steam Game

Within 8 hours of its release, Palworld sold over a million copies. A day later, the game boasted over two million copies sold and became the top-selling game on Steam. The game also has over 651,000 concurrent players on Steam, overtaking the likes of CS2 and Dota 2, standing at 530,000 and 345,000 respectively.

The total player count is much higher, owing to its release on console and Xbox marketplace on PC. It is also available via game pass. Unfortunately, Microsoft does not release player counts for these platforms. However, it is estimated that the active player count for the game across all platforms must have been over a million concurrent players.
