Palworld is a new action-adventure survival game developed by the Japanese Pocket Pair studios. The world is filled with animal-like creatures called Pals that you can fight and capture for building your base, traversing the terrain, and combat. Thus, the game is being dubbed “Pokémon with guns.”

Since its release on January 19th, 2024, the game has shattered multiple records. Palworld sold over a million copies within eight hours of release. It had crossed the two million mark to become the top-selling game on Steam within 24 hours.

The game also had more concurrent players than CS2 and Dota 2, making it the most-played game on Steam on the day of its release. In fact, the developers even had to have an emergency meeting with Epic Games due to servers being unable to take the high player count load.

Palworld is taking the gaming world by storm

The official account of the Game Awards recently posted a list of games with the biggest peak concurrent active player base in the history of the gaming platform Steam. The new action-adventure survival game, Palworld, has broken into the Top 10, placing sixth on their list with over a million concurrent players.

The game narrowly beat out Elden Ring, standing at 953,000, to take sixth place with one million active players. The total player count is much higher, owing to its release on console and Xbox marketplace on PC. It is also available via Xbox game pass. Unfortunately, Microsoft does not release player counts for these platforms. 

PUBG with 3.3 million, Counter-Strike with 1.8 million and The Lost Ark with 1.3 million still occupy the top three spots. Note that these statistics are only on the Steam platform. League of Legends still holds the highest active player count record with 8 million players on the Riot Games gaming platform.
