Rainbow Six Siege Year 6 Season 4 Operator review
Ubisoft had announced the release of a new season of Rainbow Six Siege back on 4th November named operation High Calibre. It was finally released on November 30th along with the new operator Thorn. On launch, she was only available to those with a battle pass. Soon she will be available to everyone as the season has been out for almost two weeks. There are many players who are eagerly waiting to play her, so how does the newest introduction to the roster of the now 62 characters play?
Thorn’s Gadget
Thorn adds another trap operator to the Rainbow Six Siege defense roster along with Kapkan, Frost, Lesion, Melusi, and Ela. Her Razorbloom shells are a combination of Kapkan’s EDD and Ela’s Grzmont mines. She carries three of these and like an EDD the Razorbloom shell deals explosive damage and like Ela’s Grzmont mines it can stick on any surface. This combination provides many creative uses for the gadget. It can instantly kill any player which is within a certain radius of it while heavily damaging those outside it. The gadget can be shot before and after activation and it activates on a line of sight basis, taking some time after activation to explode.
Most people have found that placing the gadget inside different shelves, under different structures or my personal favorite which is sticking it on a single stair works the best as this hides the gadget much better while giving it shock value which can result from an attacker being surprised. It is great at default plant spots as it can easily disrupt the enemy team’s plant and help your team score one or two kills.
The best way to get kills with her gadget is to hide it in unexpected places along paths that attackers take frequently. One such example shown by Varsity Gaming was near the hatch in Kitchen on the Clubhouse map which is often a spot that attackers use to push the Basement site.
Thorn works brilliantly with other traps operators such as Lesion, Melusi and Ela who can slow down enemies making it certain that the Razorbloom shell gets a kill (unless they shoot it) as they fail to run away from its blast radius in time.

Thorn’s Loadout
This season introduces a new gun to Rainbow Six Siege arsenal. It is an SMG that fires 50 caliber rounds. Thorn’s gun can be used to easily make small lines of sight or holes in the floor, but it is advised not to use it to make larger lines of sight as the player can burn through ammunition very fast. The ability to cause small-scale destruction is useful because Razorbloom shells can be thrown into them which will catch attackers off-guard.
The other gun in Thorn’s primary weapons arsenal is the GSG9 shotgun, the M870. For secondary weapons, Thorn has two options, Maverick’s 1911 TACOPS and Vigil and Kali’s C75 Auto. The combinations are still being tested but the two prevalent ones are pairing the UZK50GI with the 1911 TACOPS and the M870 with the C75. However, the second combination requires slightly more skill to use than the first due to the recoil of the
In the utility department, Thorn brings another deployable shield for the defenders which can be great for team play. This makes it a total of 9 operators who can bring shields on defense in Rainbow Six Siege (Including Goyo who gets two). If playing solo, the best option is barbed wire as this can be combined with Thorn’s gadget to provide deadly results. Thorn is one of the most flexible trap operators in Rainbow Six Siege and her gadget can be used in many creative ways, all of which I am very excited to see.
