The craze for interstellar games is on an all-time rise. This is because of the massive success of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and the hype for the upcoming game, Starfield. Ubisoft revealed Star War Outlaws as their next open-world project, and the concept blew everyone’s mind! The developers have said the upcoming game will come with loads of interesting and new stuff. Furthermore, the project’s creative director has recently revealed that the planet size in the game will be massive!
Just a month ago, Ubisoft debuted “Star Wars Outlaws,” a AAA-title, single-player Star Wars game. At first glance, the game excited fans with its unique features and graphics. Along with Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Ubisoft is going all out with the open-world genre! Developers have said the game will follow a “full freedom of approach” concept. Furthermore, the game’s setting will be between the events of “Empire” & “Jedi,” it will feature 1970s-type cinematics in some scenes.
And if that’s not all, this upcoming open-world game will have a massive planet size. That’s a criteria one needs to follow while making a Star Wars Open-world game, and Ubisoft seems to have been faithful towards it.

Star Wars Outlaws massive planet size and areas to be handcrafted
The creative director Julian Gerighty claimed that each planet in Star Wars Outlaws will be comparable to two to three zones in Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey in issue #387 of EDGE magazine. He also stated, “We will handcraft every place on the planets, and we will not create any planet mechanically.” Director Julian also gave insights about the extraterrestrial companion Nix and the repercussions of siding with the wrong group.
To help us visualize the depths of Star Wars Outlaws, Julian Gerighty went into great detail. He focused a lot on the game’s free exploration and open-world nature. He continued by discussing specific worlds that would be included in the game, like Tatooine, Akiva, Kijimi, etc. So fans can expect the game to be a massive open-world game. Moreover, each place is comparable to a whole 2-3 zones of Assassins’ Creed Odyssey shows how big the game environment will be.
The director stated that each planet’s enormous size aside, they would not procedurally create them. It’s a unique takeaway for the game, as it is typical for games with large open worlds to have mechanically created areas. Each site on these worlds is “handcrafted,” and during interactions, we may anticipate “full freedom of approach.” Director Julian also emphasized some crucial information on the constraints of exploration and how to go throughout each planet. Director Julian said,
In our past games, we didn’t have vehicles, so in wrapping our heads around the different gameplay possibilities of speeders and spaceships, we’ve had to embrace the limits and constraints of each one. Flying freely above the planet was something that we chose not to do, because it was going to take us a huge amount of effort for very little payoff,”
Overall, this is an innovative approach to the open-world genre. By handcrafting each place, players would be able to have an intense immersive experience. Furthermore, a large open world would mean a better & bigger plot for the game and would make explorations fun and challenging, with easter eggs hidden all around. Finally, Star Wars Outlaws will hit consoles and PCs somewhere in the summer of 2024, and fans are eagerly waiting for it.
