The addition of Pilot to Halo Infinite adds a sense of humour and humanity

While Halo Infinite 5: Guardians received plaudits for its gameplay, design, and entertaining multiplayer mode, the game’s plot was marred by uneven characterizations, a bloated storyline, and a lacklustre conclusion. Fans of the long-running series expected 343 Industries to deliver with the upcoming instalment, Halo Infinite, as they hoped it would replicate the magic of the previous games.
While not flawless, Halo Infinite has been praised as a return to form for the franchise, receiving accolades from fans and critics alike.

A Different Viewpoint in Halo Infinite

The enigmatic Pilot’s role in Halo Infinite was the subject of great debate previous to the game’s release, as it was featured prominently in the E3 2019 cinematic trailer. After the events of Halo 5, Master Chief’s bond with his AI partner Cortana was destroyed, fans questioned if the Pilot would bring some of the emotional depth that she has in earlier games.
The Pilot, described by the devs as “just a regular guy,” adds a much-needed human touch to Halo Infinite’s single-player campaign. He’s the ideal counterpoint to Master Chief, as he wears his heart on his sleeve as opposed to the Spartan’s austere demeanour.
Master Chief’s More Sentimental Side

Players rarely get to see Master Chief express any emotion, especially since they never see his face or get a glimpse of the true guy behind the helmet. It’s difficult to describe his emotional response – if he has one – without using facial expressions, so gamers get a glimpse of his genuine nature through his connections and interactions with others.
Master Chief’s commitment to protecting and comforting his new friend during a particularly painful scenario in which they both open up about their failures wonderfully demonstrates the depth of his empathy.

Master Chief rarely forms meaningful ties with other characters, and following the deaths of Cortana and Avery Johnson, there was an emotional hole in the Halo games that needed to be filled. Throughout Halo Infinite, The Pilot is an effective everyman character that adds emotional weight, hilarious commentary, and opportunities to humanise the massive Spartan.
