Toxic Champ Select Behaviour in League of Legends will be punished soon

During the League of Legends champion selection process for a while, but such reports haven’t resulted in any punishments. They just added to Riot Games’ knowledge of player behaviour during champion selection, with Riot promising to “install a punishment system” once it had enough information to continue confidently. Riot announced this week that it will apply punishments based on champion pick reports in the near future, so that time is rapidly approaching.

In a post on the game’s website explaining the many behavioural systems in existence inside League, Hana “TimTamMonster” Dinh, the behaviour systems product lead working on League, revealed the latest on the champ select reports efforts.

Dinh recognised that the punishments were not added as promised, but added that, despite the fact that those reports still make up a small percentage of all reports received by Riot, individuals who are found guilty of disruptive behaviour during champ select would be punished shortly.

“Another area where we lost your trust is Champ Select reporting. Despite the fact that we were monitoring these reports, we did not impose the appropriate consequences as promised. Even though Champ Select reports make up only about 3.2 percent of all reports now, we recognise that your experience in all aspects of the game is still valuable.

I’m happy to say that we’re linking punishments to Champ Select reports, and you’ll get an update on that in a future patch.

Dinh also stated that the League’s system for detecting verbal abuse is being upgraded. It’s expected to improve those systems tenfold once the modifications are implemented, but Dinh didn’t say when those upgrades will be implemented.

Apart from merely punishing the troublesome players, Riot also announced that additional prizes would be included for players who are on the opposite end of the spectrum and are rated the most honourable under the game’s Honor system. Honorable players will receive a special recall animation and an exclusive skin, both of which will be released later this year. The skin will be given to League of Legends players at the end of the season.
