Twitch has been running rampant in the news for their sexual policies and Artistic Nudity policy. Many female streamers have widely exploited the Hot Tub Meta of 2021 and the current Topless Meta to gain more views and donations. Fans are outraged by this as it reduces the quality of content on the platform and takes away from deserving streamers who work dedicatedly towards growing their channels.

Rather than listening to the fans, Twitch introduced an Artistic Nudity policy in the opposite direction. They permitted much content on the platform for which creators were previously penalized. This included s*xual dances such as twerking and grinding. Many streamers reacted to this news. xQc even twerked on his stream to test out these new policies.

Additionally, these policies also allowed “fictionalized (drawn, animated, or sculpted) fully exposed female-presenting breasts and/or genitals or buttocks regardless of gender.” As expected, this caused a massive uproar on the internet. Thankfully, Twitch listened to these complaints and has decided to rescind the Artistic Nudity policy within 48 hours of its release.

Twitch removes Artistic Nudity policy after fan retaliation

The official Twitch website posted a S*xual Content Policy Update regarding the recent changes. Twitch CEO Dan Clancy authored the post. Dan started off by explaining that many artists had complained about the company’s content policies. They claimed that these policies regarding fictional nudity were limiting. This highly restricted artists from creating the content they wished to do.

Twitch aimed to empower artists to explore the human form in their work, acknowledging the platform’s thriving artistic community. However, this policy relaxation came with many challenges. Many streamers started making content that breached the new guidelines, prompting Twitch to take swift action to remove such content and enforce channel restrictions.

The platform also received substantial feedback from the Twitch community, expressing concerns over the new content. A considerable issue highlighted in the post that Twitch faces is distinguishing digital art from photography, especially with AI being able to create highly realistic images with ease.

Hence, Twitch has reconsidered its stance on the artistic nudity policy. With immediate effect, Twitch has reinstated the restrictions previously in place. The platform will no longer allow fictional or real nudity depictions, except for Mature-rated games. These changes have also been reflected in the platform’s Emote guidelines.
