Using mind control to play video games, who ever thought this would be possible?

Elden Ring streamer Perrikaryal beat a boss using an EEG (electroencephalogram) controller. This allowed her to use her in-game character via mind control. Not even a regular console controller was needed to achieve such a feat. Moreover, she tried it in a Dark Souls-inspired game considered one of the hardest.

FormSoftware’s Elden Ring is one of those games where you can spend hours playing and still want more. But some drop them quickly due to the hard boss fights and complex open-world structure. Most of the time, it’s difficult to beat the game with regular console or PC controls, but now someone is conquering it with just the use of their brainwaves.

Not too long ago, a streamer even beat the game using a Bop-It controller. The new methods streamers and gamers are sometimes finding to play a game are just amazing.

Perrikaryal, or simply Perri, has been testing her new way of playing Elden Ring with the use of EEG as far back as January 2023 on Twitch. She started this project to see if it was possible to beat Elden Ring without the use of hands. She started using the EEG device that Doctors and Scientists use to monitor brain waves. They attach the device to the subject’s scalp and keep tabs on the electrical signals produced by the brain.

The British Canadian with a Master’s degree in psychology thought of using the same technique to beat the Game of the Year. If you follow her stream on Twitch, at first, she used the EEG device to only attack in the game. She had to use a controller to move around. As time progressed, she ditched the controller completely, as shown in the most recent stream. Perri could control everything from attacking to moving around in the game. She defeated a pretty strong opponent, the Soldier of Godrick.

Perrikaryal posted about her achievement on Twitter, and the community flooded her with praise. She wrote in the Twitter post, “Our first trial of our completely Hands-free Mind-control game controller was a success! There’s still a lot to do, but I’m hugely proud of this moment.”

The community is hyped about Perri’s feat

Who does not want to control things(moving objects) by just using their thoughts as Professor X of the X-Men does? Perri’s new way of playing games, and that too a tough one like Elden Ring, has made people eager to get hold of one.

As previously mentioned, this is not the first time a streamer has found an innovative way to play a game. If you scroll through YouTube, you will come across loads of examples. Just the other day, famous CS: GO YouTuber @Warowl played CSGO with a Drawing Tablet. If Perrikaryal manages to make this method available to the general public, who knows, we won’t even need controllers in the future at all. Moreover, it might even affect the VR gaming world as well.
