Update on Battle Royale Mode Rumors from a Halo Infinite Leaker

Update on Battle Royale Mode Rumors from a Halo Infinite Leaker

There is mention of a battle royale mode in the game’s files. In fact, the Halo announcer can be heard mentioning “battle royale” in the files. So, either a battle royale mode is in development or was at one point.

It’s the latter, if a fresh leak is to be believed. The Halo Infinite battle royale mode rumours resurfaced this week, with information that Certain Affinity, not 343 Industries, was working on the game. However, a well-known Halo Infinite leaker has weighed in on the rumours, suggesting they aren’t entirely accurate.

Surasia, a Halo Infinite leaker, confirmed on Twitter that Certain Affinity is working on the game, but not on a battle royale mode. The mode, according to the leaker, is more “Invasion 2.0.” For those unfamiliar with Halo, Invasion is a battle royale-style mode that debuted with Halo Reach (read more about it here). While it resembles a battle royale mode, it is unlikely to satisfy the same need.

There has been much discussion over whether Halo Infinite need a battle royale mode. The mode is proving to be more than a fad, but it is also proving to be far from a foolproof blueprint for success. While games like Fortnite, PUBG, Apex Legends, and Call of Duty: Warzone have made a lot of money, many others, including well-known titles like Battlefield, have failed to replicate their success.

Despite this, it appears that a battle royale option is currently required to take a shooter from a major smash to a massive hit, thus there’s a lot of pressure on Xbox to include one in Halo Infinite, despite the objections of many seasoned fans.

For the time being, take everything here with a grain of salt because it is unofficial and hypothetical. As always, we’ll keep you informed if further information becomes available or if 343 Industries/Xbox responds in any way.
