Valorant announces dedicated leagues for Italy and Portugal

Ever since its release, Valorant has been one of the most competitive tactical shooter games out there, and with newer leagues entering into its foray, the developers have come up with a wholesome development plan. For this, they have decided to introduce and incorporate newer regions into these tournaments, with the addition made to the Challenger Leagues in order to promote local talent.

One of the fastest-growing business models for Valorant has been to support local talent and set up partnership programs with respective regions and countries. This has resulted in a more holistic and inclusive procedure for players worldwide, providing them with a platform to project their gaming skills.

This time, Valorant has decided to add two new counties in the roster of expanding tournaments, with Italy and Portugal, set to be added in the recent 2023 Challengers Ecosystem. According to their recent Twitter announcement, the indigenous talent of those countries will now be participating in the respective domestic leagues.

The system of contention will remain the same. This means upon winning these tournaments, they will be up for a spot at the Challengers Ascension. In case these teams manage to win the tournament, they would get a place in the International League. In a recent blog, the developers confirmed that this would actually contribute in developing and tapping into the local talent with immense potential.

The developers have stated that both regions have shown immense promise, which was the primary reason for their inclusion in the upcoming VCT 2023. The primary motive, however, as revealed by the developers was ‘to develop the next generation of esports professionals.

VCT Challenger Leagues: What are those?

VCT Challengers League was established to enable players to move up to higher ranks through the Challenger Ascension. After reaching that stage, one team from each region would move on to the international tournament, which is the highest level of Valorant competitive gaming.

As of now, there are 23 regional leagues. Portugal and Italy will belong to the South European League, where they would be competing alongside Spain for a spot in the International League.

It will be interesting to find out which teams qualify for the next season’s international league, and whether are there some surprises to come out of these countries. This will increase the levels of the game, making it a more holistic process for the community in general.
