Is Split back in Valorant competitive? Speculations arise as Ion bundle showcase teases the map

Harbor Gameplay

The Valorant meta is at a critical situation right now. With the developers having recently removed Split from its unranked and competitive queue, there weren’t any chances of Split returning anytime soon in the meta. However, the launch of the Ion 2.0 gun skin trailer has raked up quite the speculation, and mostly for all the wrong reasons. This is specifically because the action on the map takes place on Split, a map that has long been removed from the competitive queue, making fans speculate if indeed the map is set to return, much quicker than anyone anticipated.

Is Split back in Valorant competitive?

With the dropping of the new agent Harbor, fans have already got their hands full on exclusive content coming their way in the form of a new gun skinline, a new battlepass and new Space Odyssey, Iridian Thorn collection, with a number of new gun buddies, player cards and sprays. However, despite so many factors in play, the raging question has still persisted among the fans: Is Split returning to the competitive meta?

Riot has been silent on this, and nothing has come from the developers so far about the re entry of the map. However, Valorant is well known to put in Easter Eggs within the trailers and gameplay in order to get a bigger audience reaction at the time of release and this might just turn out to be a similar kind of stunt. No official statement has been released by Riot Games so far, leading to wild speculation over the internet.

This can only however, end up in either of the two ways: Firstly, Riot and its developers might indeed be wishing to reintroduce split into the meta in which case the fans have a reason to be excited to get back a map that had kind of a mixed reaction. Alternatively though, Valorant could just be using the map structure for the trailer without having any intention of reintroducing it anytime in the near future, which will leave the fans deeply disappointed.

Reintroduction of maps just before the onset of the Valorant Challengers tournament might end up upsetting the plans for several professional teams, so Valorant will also have to keep that in consideration while taking any decision regarding the map. Additionally, the reintroduction of the map will mean one extra map for the new Harbor mains to master, and since the reasoning behind removal for the map was overcrowding, it appears highly unlikely that Valorant will reintroduce the map anytime soon.
