The Valorant Champions Tour of 2024 is in full swing as several teams across multiple regions are battling it out to earn a spot in the first masters tournament of the 2024 season, VCT Masters Madrid. Gen.G is up against eleven other regional teams, all trying to work up to World Championship glory.

Gen.G is definitely one of the underdogs heading into VCT 2024. While the team has won several B-tier tournaments, they are yet to make their mark in Tier 1 tournaments. In its history, the team has only qualified for one masters tournament in 2021, where they finished third. However, this has not stopped Gen.G from giving it their all this season.

Riot Games will change the VCT format in 2024. This year, four franchised leagues were included, so each region will receive only two slots in the upcoming Valorant Masters tournament in Madrid.

Gen.G had a rocky start to this season. They lost an early series to Paper Rex, who also qualified for the VCT Masters Madrid later on.

This meant the team faced extra challenges to earn a qualifying spot. However, this did not stop them, as they beat Rex Regum Qeon, Team Secret, and Zeta Division in their next three matches.

Gen.G earned a spot in the VCT Pacific Kickoff playoffs against fellow Korean team DRX. The winner of the Korean derby would take the final spot in VCT Masters Madrid from the Pacific region. Gen.G knew they were up against a challenge, as DRX has proven to be one of the strongest teams over the past year.

The match was highly back-and-forth, with neither team letting their opponents gain momentum. However, four consecutive round wins at the end allowed Gen G to win 14-12 on Bind.

Gen G dominated most of the second match, winning 9 out of the first 12 games. DRX showed signs of life in the latter half of the game. However, they eventually lost out 13-8. After a clean 2-0 sweep, Gen G and Paper Rex are the two teams representing the Pacific region in VCT Masters Madrid.
