Game developers and publishers are notorious for banning people due to their online behaviour. Most multiplayer games feature voice and text chat options for players to communicate with each other. It is only a matter of time before players abuse these and get banned. However, an Overwatch 2 player was recently banned for seemingly no reason.
An Overwatch 2 player recently took to the Overwatch 2 subreddit to express his complaint about seemingly being banned for no reason whatsoever. The post was titled, ‘I got banned from overwatch for being a positive person, and no im actually serious i really did.’
The Overwatch 2 player shared screenshots of his chat with Blizzard support, who deemed that even saying good game after to your teammates is grounds for punishment. The player used several phrases like “F**k that was clean Hanzo“, “gg,” “that scared me,” “ns,” “bamf” and “yipppeeee.” When he asked the support team about reversing the ban, they claimed their initial findings to be correct. Hence, they refused to reverse the ban.
Activision Blizzard bans player from Overwatch 2 for encouraging team in chat
The message from Activision Blizzard ended by saying that while the policies may seem harsh, they’re in place to ensure every player can enjoy the game. Interestingly, the post was deleted by the subreddit’s moderators a few hours after its release. If you have played a few games of Overwatch 2 in the past, you know that the game’s lobbies are highly toxic. These players often face no penalty for going overboard with their results.
However, a player simply trying to encourage his teammates to get banned has infuriated the community. Some worried that the use of swear words may have triggered an automatic ban from bots that monitor the chat. However, as mentioned previously, players have gotten away with saying way worse stuff and not getting a ban.
Fans jokingly congratulated the player, saying that Blizzard had just saved him from a terrible game. It is no secret that Overwatch 2 has not performed and failed to live up to the Game Awards’ 2016 Game of the Year. The game sits with a 91% overly negative rating on Steam thanks to its disappointing gameplay and malicious microtransactions system.
This might be a genuine mistake from Blizzard games because was by no means raging. They even have the mature chat option and still banning someone for a chat message just baffled many fans. Hopefully, the Overwatch 2 player will get unbanned soon.
