Should you kill or recruit Ogres in Baldur’s Gate 3?
Choose between killing Ogers or recruiting them to fight alongside you in Baldur's Gate 3
Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the most well-known and critically acclaimed RPGs ever. The game is set in the mythical world of Faerun and features some of the most famous mythical species and features, such as goblins, trolls, Dragons, and also ogres.
Additionally, players can meet ogres very early into their playthrough in Blighted Village during Act 1. Players here are given the choice to engage and kill the Ogres when they encounter them. Besides this, players can also pay them coins in exchange for their help in the future.
Here is a guide that will help players choose the best option in Baldur’s Gate 3.
What is the better option- Killing the Ogres or Recruiting them
Depending on the current situation, the needs of the player, the choice is up to them. Here are the three options that players have-
- Players who are spending skill points and leveling up the intelligence skill can choose to kill them. Players should know that they have to engage the ogres very strategically and carefully, as in Act 1 they pose a massive challenge.
Once defeated, players can loot the ogre’s body and the Lump’s headpiece. The headpiece increases the player’s intelligence to level 17. - Players who possess 500-1000 gold can choose to use their perception, deception, or intimidation skills to earn an Ogre horn. This horn allows players to call the team of 3 ogres to a battle.
- The last option is something that players who like house Slytherin may do. They can fool the ogres twice, after this they can call the ogres for support during the fight and choose to pay them.
How to eliminate the Ogres Baldur’s Gate 3
If players want to choose the aggressive and faster option, they can choose to fight and eliminate the ogres. To do this as efficiently and effectively as possible, they should stealth climb the semi-ruined house.
Once players have climbed up and have a vantage point, they should attack the Ogres with range weapons and their party. Players are recommended to leave a tank-like character on the ground floor, as this character won’t let the Ogres escape.
Players should continuously damage the Ogres from the vantage point and then use the action move to move aside. In retaliation, Ogres will throw barrels at the players, which can cause massive damage.
Players should be very attentive to these barrels and dodge them with reflexes like a spider. Doing this will make it quite easy to defeat the ogres.
How to recruit the Ogres in Baldur’s Gate 3
In the beginning, the Ogres will want to fight and eat the player. Players should converse very carefully with the Ogres and use 10 deceptions or intimidation checks during this phase. This will make the Ogres peaceful.
After this, players can choose to offer 500 gold to call the Ogres to help themselves once during the game(note that after helping the players once, the ogres will disappear).
The other method that players can use is successfully using Deception, Intimidation, or Persuasion check at DC level 20. Players should note that they should save the game at this point, as it is very hard to have 20 DC in Act 1 of the game.
If the player succeeds with these skill checks, they will receive the Ogre horn: on pain on death. This will give players victory in a fight for 1000 gold or in exchange for corpses in Baldur’s Gate 3.
