Why is Apex Legends’ player count declining in 2023?
Many reasons are contributing in the downfall of Apex Legends
EA’s Apex Legends was released in 2019 and was an instant hit with people because of its free-to-play hero battle royale-style gameplay. It had amassed 5 million players by the end of its first week. Apex Legends expanded its player count to 50 million within its first month. It got so popular that the mobile version of the game, Apex Legends Mobile, was released in 2022 and was one of the most anticipated games of the year.

REASONS FOR APEX LENEGEND’S DECLINE
Lack of Content
Apex Legends has been out for just about 4 years now. However, the game has started to lose after this much time in the market. A major reason for the same is that people are getting bored with the game. EA has not come up with new content and making the battle royale a bit stale. Devs added a new map with season 17. They also add a new legend, Ballistic to the game with the latest season.
However, there have been no major changes concerning the contents of the game People have started moving to other games which offer a breath of fresh air. Apex Legends got duos mode back in 2020 other than that there have been no major changes to the game that would convince players to stay at the game.
No updates on Legends
Another issue that people are facing is the mismanagement of legends in the game, legends like Horizon or Seer are too overpowered and need to be nerfed to bring balance to the game while others like Mirage are in dire need of a buff. There have been no updates to these issues for quite some time and players are getting tired of it and moving to newer games that are fresh and also attract more audience.
New Rank Model
Further, the newest rank model hasn’t helped Apex Legend’s case. One of the two main goals the developers had highlighted for the Ranked system change was “evolving matchmaking to enable consistently competitive matches.”
But with everyone starting at Rookie rank in the new season, players of all skills are being matched in lobbies. Many pros have criticized the new rank system and also the unbalanced matchmaking lobbies allowing the higher-skilled players to stomp the lower-skilled players.
Issues with smooth gameplay
Another main thing that has been putting off players is the gameplay experience. Players have been reporting multiple bugs and glitches issue. Due to this, players are not getting the smooth experience that they should and are switching over to different games where they can enjoy properly. Bugs are not a new thing and are not confined to this game, however, the extent to which they ‘bugs’ players can differ drastically.
These are some major reasons why one of the most entertaining battle royale games, Apex Legend is witnessing a decline in its player count. It’s about time that EA and the Developers pull up their socks and bring in some changes to restore the game’s glory otherwise the fanbase of the beloved game will be gone shortly.
They need to bring in more prominent updates to the balance legends as necessary. In addition to that, devs should add more game modes to make the game more fresh and exciting for everyone. This is their time to restore the game to its olden days. Let’s see what the future holds for Apex Legends.
